Worked just as advertised and the 8X speed was correct. I had to return several no-names that falsely claimed a better speed than they delivered. I should have paid the $5 extra for this unit from the start.

I am submitting this review after several weeks of use. This drive is amazingly compact. As such, some protection and care should be exercised during storage and use, (I bought a hard-shell carrying Case) I own an ASUS Laptop and felt that it was best, based on reviews, to stick with a drive by the same manufacturer. This drive is perfect for your Laptop Bag or your backpack. I have had absolutely no issues with this disc drive. The performance is pretty much as expected in a small, lightweight, external drive. It is not lightning quick and I noted seek times a little slower than my desktop unit. By purchasing this drive, I was able to pair it with my new laptop that does not have a DVD drive. This allowed me to purchase a much thinner, lighter Laptop and also get features that would have been sacrificed by including the cost of the drive.(more memory) I am sure that this drive will work with other manufacturers products, not just ASUS. Just be aware that it needs TWO USB connections to work properly. I rated it 5 stars for the Value, Light weight, and ease of use. I rated it 4 stars overall because I feel it could be made just slightly more sturdy and they could have at least included a protective sleeve or case.

Cheap external dvd drive, but requires 2 usb cables to be connected to your computer. Had I realized this, I would have went for a dvd reader that only requires 1 usb or usb c connector.

The ZenDrive Ultra works really well. An important note for potential buyers, you can use just one usb to play discs, but to burn a disc you must use BOTH of the usb connections.

Easy to use. Lightweight and small enough for good portability. Keyboard is big enough and comfortble to use.

Computers today either do not come with a drive bay or if you buy cases that do not have a slot for it then this is the other option. I purchased this because refreshing windows every year for some reason the network adapter isnt up to date so i have to use a drive to install the drivers for internet to work. works great

Since newer laptops dont come with an optical disc drive, I had to find one after rediscovering my Roller Coaster Tycoon and Clue CD-Roms. It was a breeze to install and works like a charm.

Portable dvdrom/writer does what its supposed to do.

Recently bought a new laptop which did not have a built-in DVD drive. Ordered one that died after the first day and had to be sent back. Got this one. It works great! Was able to reinstall Office program and not have to buy a new one.

After building my new PC -- I didnt have a DVD drive. Discovered I needed one now and then. This worked perfectly.
