> 3 dayThis is my fourth projector in 10yrs. Recently had the Epson 5040UB and decided to go with Benqs HT3550 DLP 4K (1080 × 4), over Epsons new 5050UB claimed 4K which actually only displays 2k (1080 x 2) (read Epsons fine print). The HT3550 is also about half the price. The HT3550 is so much sharper than my old 5040UB, its like seeing 4k for the first time. Due to having light colored walls in my light controlled theater, I really dont see a noticeable difference in the claimed contrast between the two. This project is not advertised as a bright room projector and will not be suitable for that environment. With todays projectors in the sub $3000 range, theres a trade off of either having deep rich true theater like colors, or a super bright picture. I prefer I true to form picture in a light controlled room.

> 3 dayI expected a lot about this projector but as soon as I turned on, there were lines left side- I thought it was for alignment or something but over time, the lines don’t disappear. So disappointed.

> 3 dayLove the projector. Looks sleek and picture is amazing. It’s just pricey; took all my savings but I needed an upgrade in my media room.

04-06-2025In 7 months ownership I haven’t had any HDR due to it changing white colors to caution yellow, then about 2 months ago an area in bottom left quadrant got some dead pixels (solid white). The part that final pushed a review is today when it wouldn’t turn on at all! Green lights come on, but no lamp or fans follow. Seems to be a semi common issue with them. I always had it plugged into either a Monster or APC surge protector, and it projects on a 110” silver ticket 4K screen with all appropriate cables to fully enjoy this highly recommended projector. Part 2! Big piece of you know what!!! PERIOD!!! NO QUESTION ASKED!!! So the company did in fact replace the first hunk of junk, and the second just failed too. It has had burnt out pixels almost since the day I got the replacement, and today 06/07/22 I turn it on got zero screen, unplugged it, and the screen is there with about 70 decibel burnt out cooling fan freaking out. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!! I could if bought a Samsung or LG 75 inch 4K for the price this thing set me back, and I wouldn’t of had to warranty one, and have dead second one. Things work great for a few months then practically self destruct. So now I have a 110” wall mount screen, 120” portable screen, wall/ceiling mount, and mobile adjustable stand that don’t do me now good for anything. Glad I bought a 65” LG C1 Black Friday 2021 for the bedroom it’s better gift games anyways.

> 3 dayThe customer service is great - the unit was auto powering off with no notice or reason, and BenQ quickly issued a shipping label to return and replaced it quickly. Putting a lot of hours on it and working really well. Regarding the unit itself - Android integration is what sets this apart from others of similar quality. The ability to adjust the angle of the lens is nice for fine tuning. The picture quality is really impressive.

> 3 dayComing from a Benq HT1075 this is a huge upgrade. Picture is crystal clear beautiful bright enough for dark rooms. Darks are amazing! The cinema picture setting is the best with a few tweaks to color temperature but out of the box great calibration. The HDR mode is a bit too orange/red but tones down when you activate wide color gamut. Sound is as expected and you wouldnt be spending $1,500 for a projector without a good supporting sound system. The short throw was perfect for my set up. I got a great 100 picture from 8 feet or so. It is pretty quiet on normal lamp mode. Im very satisfied and highly recommend this projector. I hope it last!!

> 3 dayI really wanted to love this projector (ordered by my wife from Projector People). Really wish I could have seen the HDR in action, rather than the blocky, yellow-cast images (clearly not working right). After much research, I am inclined to believe my HDR problems were related to the 1.0.3 firmware (AVSForums had mentions of this problem). Ill never know for certain because I was also unable to update either of the projectors I received, neither the original, nor the replacement sent by BenQ. This is perhaps a problem with my laptop? I tried EVERYTHING. Either way, a projector should work properly out of the box; that falls on BenQ. HDR aside, the 4K image is sharp and smooth. SDR colors are rich and accurate. The PJ isnt super bright, but the blacks easily smoke my old W1070 (dark movies look way better). Alas, the HDR problems are deal-breaker. If I could have fixed it, I would have kept it. BenQ was unresponsive when I said I needed help. So stay tuned for my upcoming review of an Epson 5050UB.

> 3 dayStay away! Ever since Ive had this projector, 3 or 4 out of every 10 startups only half of the screen works and I have to turn it off (it actually turns itself off) and restart it. If that was the only issue, and its a big one, I suppose I could live with it and I have thus far. Now, with just over 200 hours on it, a bad aberration has showed up on the bottom left of the screen and its not the lens nor my actual pull-down screen. Definitely a internal issue and it can be seen during bright scenes or when a uniform color is displayed. Extremely annoying, something that once you see you cant unsee. Im crossing my fingers that I can get BenQ to RMA it even though it was purchased from a third-party seller through Amazon. I wouldnt take the risk if I were you!
