> 24 hourI had switched from a. 25 gallon tank to a 70 gallon tank and I set it up the same way as my last aquarium. And while changing my water one day, all my gold fish has suddenly died. And I noticed a fungus on the very bottom. I had went to a aquarium shop to ask for support. And they had told me to stop using gravel, start all over, and to start using the African sand. What I like about it is it’s very light and looks much nicer than gravel. In addition to the beautiful natural looking color, what I don’t like about it is because it’s so thin it has clogged up 2 of my gravel cleaners. so now I get to figure out something else to use, when changing the water in my tank.

> 24 hourMy husband and I were sure that this sand would be perfect for our aquarium. It is beautiful, unit it is placed in the aquarium and the tank if full of water. Despite our MANY MANY MANY attempts to clean the sand, the water is still murky. This leaves the tank looking distressed and unhealthy. We have tried everything, including complete water changes, to address the situation. We wanted this product to live up to our expectations, unfortunately it was a disappointment. We are now looking to purchase a gravel or pebble for our tank.

> 24 hourBeen doing the aquarium thing for a while now. You can count on Fluval and Carib Sea for quality. This gravel looks good and keeps PH high which Cichlids need. Carib Sea is going to have something that will work and look great no matter what kind of aquarium and what kind of fish you have.

> 24 hourWhen this arrived I did not get sand. What I got was some stupid reptile light. Extremely disappointed. They even took the effort to put the label for the item I actually ordered on the light.

> 24 hourI replaced silicone sand with this gravel. I kept going through impellers on my HOB filters with the lighter sand so I figured Id spend more money for some heavier sand that doesnt get kicked up as much. Unfortunately, ever since I introduced this substrate into my tank it killed everything. I thought I had a disease, or that I lost my cycle, but I had already taken extra filter media out of one of my other tanks to help with the load. So I drained my tank for a few months and started all over. I recycled the take over about 4 weeks with ammonia and after I felt I had enough bacteria, I introduced about 7 cichlids in. Within 3 weeks all of them were dead. After some further research there were a few others that had similar experiences with this substrate, specifically, the one with any black sand in it. I came back to amazon and the reviews seemed pretty good so figured I had something else going in. Just to see I removed all of this and I purchased white natural geographic substrate and recycled my tank. I finally have a healthy tank of fish again. I cant say for sure that this substrate caused all my problems and cost me hundreds of dollars in lost fish but it sure seemed like it. If you decide to stick with the brand, perhaps stay away from the mixed colors.
