My reason for trying out Wordperfect Office was purely financial. I am sick and tired of Microsoft demanding yearly subscriptions for software that we used to be able to buy outright with a lifetime license. The last time I used wordperfect was nearly 2 decades ago and I hoped that the differences between the two would be minimal. As a home user who mostly uses email, word processing and the occasional desktop publishing software, this suite has everything I would need. However, Microsoft Office and Corel Wordperfect Office now have very significant differences and I have had a very hard time trying to transition to the software. Not all my microsoft files open easily and, when I am sent a word attachment in email, word perfect seems to lose the formatting details. There are many things to like about the software. The ability to see all your formatting code is great if you are working with a document and cant figure out why the formatting is doing weird things. All the tools you need are in the suite, the only issue is learning how to use them. So, a lot of learning to do and some annoyance when converting documents from other software, but a really good program nevertheless.

    Greater than one week

I have been out of school for quite some time now, and my need to super compatibility with Microsoft Office has diminished. That said, I havent yet encountered anything this office suite cant handle. I have this installed on a second PC that needed an office suite. You get equivalents for Word, Access, and Powerpoint. Additionally, AfterShot, WordPerfect eBook Publisher, and Lightning (for notes) are included. Corel continues its everything but the kitchen sink approach when competing with Microsoft. Overall, I am happy with this software. It takes some getting used to sometimes, but it is solid nonetheless.

While many people I know have worked on and with MS Word for many years, I grew up using WordPerfect. My father was a government employee in the 90s and thats what they used on their first computers, and what we had on our very first home computer. So I learned WordPerfect as a teen and from that point on, I always purchased and used WordPerfect when I needed a word processing program. It just made sense to me and it was always easy for me to go back to and use. As the years went on there were times when I was required to use MS Word and using WordPerfect wasnt an option. I would tend to get frustrated because I never found MS Word as easy to use as WordPerfect and it seemed like MS Word was forever changing how they delivered their products (disk, subscription, online cloud). I missed the simplicity of the WordPerfect program Id always used. MS Word was always wanting to be integrated into the other software on the computer and had a lot of extra going on. But Ive always preferred the user friendly design of WordPerfect, and no subscriptions needed. I find it easy to navigate and it just works well for my needs. However if youre a student in college, be prepared to have most of your instructors require MS Word, especially now that they offer MS Word subscriptions free to college students.

Works well with older versions of Wordperfect

Personally I would pick Word and Excel over this. The problem is that Word started requiring a monthly fee, which is really frustrating. This program does not charge monthly but has a one time purchase price. It also includes a PDF function, a spreadsheet function and it can handle PowerPoint slides. So it can save you a lot of money in the long run, but honestly each of those original programs is more extensive and easier to use than this. This program does the basics for word processing, and handles Word created documents. Word is easier to get used to than this, but if youre looking to save money, in the long run, this will work.

WordPerfect (WP) word-processing software has been sold under that name since 1982. It quickly rose in popularity as the era of home, desktop computing arrived and caught fire, becoming the most popular word-processing software on the market. However, it was slowly but surely displaced by Microsoft Word (MSW) as the most-favored word-processing software until, by the early 1990’s, MSW was far out in front of WP. Not long after, in 1994, Novell purchased the WordPerfect Corporation, and soon after sold it to Corel in 1996. Corel has owned it ever since and has released regular updates to the classic WP software, most often in the form of an office suite such as this one. I personally started out on WP in 1986 as my very first experience of word-processing software. Back then, in its clunky DOS version, it was extremely non-user friendly. I was forced, in an IT job in 1994, to switch over to MS Word (MSW), and I have used that and Microsoft Office (MSO) ever since, in every job I had since then, and also for home use, as well. For anyone who is used to MSO, it is a very strange and stressful journey to try to use WPO. Though I will say, WP, at least, is far more user friendly than it was in its bad, old DOS days. For the most part, WordPerfect Office (WPO) can do everything that MSO does, but some things WPO does a bit better and some things MSO does a bit better. For the most part, as well, WPO is cheaper, if you only compare the two by suggested retail value. But what you actually pay for either WPO or MSO depends on if you shop around, because there are some good deals out there for both of them. Perhaps the most logical basis to choose either WPO or MSO as a home user, for personal use and/or for a home business, is if you have had years of experience at a job (or sequential jobs) which have required you to use either WPO or MSO. Since MSO in general owns a much bigger market share than WPO, the odds are that, for most consumers, their job experience will have been with MSO. There are two possible reasons, however, if you are new to purchasing an office suite and are not concerned that choosing WPO might put you in a one-down position in the marketplace of office jobs, by becoming proficient in a less popular software suite, to opt for WPO: 1. You can purchase it like this, as a PC disc, with a one-time cost, rather than pay for MSO on a subscription basis. Subscriptions are a major money drain for home users and micro businesses, and MSO appears to have moved to that model entirely. 2. Because WPO is so much less popular than MSO, it tends to be targeted far less than MSO by malware attacks.

Just an upgrade. Assumed Microsoft had changed Windows 10 enough that my version of the WordPerfect suite would start encountering problems, so jumped at the chance to be up to date. Just a personal preference but I refuse to rent Office by the year.
