The locking mechanism lets you lightly lock the tape by default so it can be pulled in or out a little by hand, completely lock it so it cant move or reel it in. Its so much easier to use then most tape measures which only let you lock or reel in the tape.

After 4 months of very light use around my house this tape measure twisted and warped (as shown in the pic) making it a pain to use the most important part. Ive never seen a tape measure do this and am very disappointed with this product but now its too late to return.

This is a cheaply made, low quality product. All-plastic housing showed deep scratches from the metal tape after one use, meaning it was never going to last long. But after I pulled it slightly beyond 25ft, the tape separated from the metal spring inside. I opened the housing to fix it, and the plastic wheel holding the spring itself is broken, so theres no way to repair. Avoid this product.

Locking feature makes it very easy to handle. Sturdy.

Great construction good for outdoor sites

Took Long time to arrive. Thought I was buying a small measuring tape for the kitchen drawer. This one is clunky.
