> 24 hourHello everyone. So I just got this monitor. I just want to make it clear, that I am not a designer, photographer or someone who, for professional, or whatever other reason is very picky about colors and distinguishing between 96 and 100% blacks. I am a scientist and I mostly use this monitor in portrait orientation (one of the reasons I actually bought it is that it easy rotates 90 degrees -- and it indeed does that easily) for reading articles and writing. I use this monitor with my MacBook Pro connected via DisplayPort-MiniDisplayPort cable. This setup works perfectly for me, and I dont seem to be having problem other people described with this setup (as display not going to sleep, or going to sleep after couple of minutes of usage). Using Macs, I really like the view angle of IPS technology, and this display performs just as well as my MBP display. Color: Little hint for Mac users here, if you go to display setup (on the monitor itself), it does have a Mac profile (it is PC by default). This setup delivers exactly (at least to my eye) the same colors as my mbp display. People are also bothered by anti-glare coating on this display. I can understand that it may bother someone, but I am actually a fan of antiglare displays (even my laptop has a customized AG display) and I find this one very good. I also think that 2 usb ports are handy, but a card reader will be useful too, as other people have reported. Bottom line: amazing monitor if you want to read and type on it (cant say about other applications). Perfectly works with Mac laptops, being much cheaper than Apple Displays (more than 2 fold) and has antiglare coating, unlike apple cinema display. Very easy to set any position you want. That is it for now.

> 24 hourThis monitor is a replacement for my 8 year old Samsung 213t. I was very happy with that monitor, and it lasted me through four computer upgrades since I originally purchased it in 2004. However, recently I had been wanting to move up to 1920x1200 for a little more space for my documents and software development tools. After one day of use, the U2412M seems to be an excellent replacement. Its much lighter than the 213t, and it runs much cooler due to the more energy-efficient LED backlighting. I will have to let others speak to the color accuracy, which I understand is generally pretty good for most purposes. From my relatively novice perspective it feels colder than my old Samsung, which perhaps is a result of the new monitor having whiter whites and less actual heat radiating from the front of the display. In any case, it does have a slightly different feel... not better or worse, but different. Pros: * Full-height 1920x1200 * Anti-glare coating (comparable to other anti-glare screens Ive used) * Good colors, seems to be best at 35 brightness * VESA mount for use on standard monitor arms and stands * LED backlight runs cool and is very power-efficient Cons: * Would be nice to have an SD card reader (not a big deal) I purchased this item directly from Amazon and it has zero dead or bright pixels that I can see. For those who care about this, they didnt double-box for shipment, but with Prime shipping via UPS it arrived with no damage.

> 24 hourThe quality of the monitor is excellent regarding functionality. It has the best controls that I have seen on monitors that I have used. The quality of the pictures is excellent (4 out of 5 stars), but the quality of the text is 3 out of 5 stars. I guess I got spoiled with the quality of retina displays on Apple products that is not available on PCs. My test consists of writing the word milling or optimum using Arial font. With anything at or below 7 pt. size, the i and the l become a blur. You could improve this by 50% spending $500 to $600 for a better monitor that also may require an upgrade on your video card depending on the capabilities of your current card. The only other negative that did not affect me much is the lack of HDMI port. For now I will keep the monitor and check the 4K resolution monitors once the prices come down since that move will require a video card upgrade. I bought the monitor from Amazon on August 10 2014 and the manufacturing date is June 2014, Revision A01. I have not seen any of the yellow tint mentioned by other reviewers. CORRECTION: I guess that is the problem with all the reviews. Many times what we report as a defective product is a result of our own mistakes. I connected the monitor to my laptop and the text resolution is much better. I have what is supposed to be a powerful video card on my desktop (Nvidia GTX 285) and the laptop is producing sharper text than the desktop. Tested with different cables and monitors and the result is the same. So My issue is with the video card. I increased the monitor rating from 3 to 4 stars. Is not 5 stars because I can see the granularity of the pixels. Something that could be better in more expensive monitors with pixel size of 0.23mm instead of the 0.27mm this monitor has. I am still keeping the monitor because of the price/performance ratio. I would recommend it if you want to stay under $275 for a 24 monitor. UPDATE 16 Sep 2014: Exactly a month and 10 days after purchasing the monitor the DVI-D input stopped working. I had one computer and two laptops each connected to one of the 3 inputs available in the monitor. The VGA and DisplayPort inputs continue working but the DVI-D does not work any more. Because it is over a month I cannot exchange it with Amazon. Called DELL customer support and they will replace it with a refurbished unit. My customer satisfaction is going down hill. I will not buy another monitor from Amazon unless I add an extended warranty which typically is not recommended to get anyway. I will think twice if I ever plan to purchase a large screen TV from Amazon since I will be running the same risk.

> 24 hourUpdate on monitor 2-12-2014 Raised monitor from 1 to 4 stars! Miracle! The computer was repaired by HP - at first the repaired computer didnt SEE the monitor! (kept going into sleep mode) THEN I tried connecting it to DVI port (instead of DVI to HDMI) Still didnt work - then I just started hitting keys on my keyboard, turning mouse on and off - and.... voila! The monitor was live! (Dont know if the change of port had anything to do with it -- maybe banging the keyboard?) Worked splendidly for a few days - then I thought to reconnect my 2nd monitor (which I had disconnected from DVI) to the HDMI Well... the screen started to flutter when I started a PowerPoint slideshow. This is just what happened before the monitor slowed down to the point of uselessness. I immediately disconnected 2nd monitor -- dont understand this at all! The screen still flutters when I start slide-show -- but everything else is working beautifully. Keeping fingers crossed and praying. I really do love this monitor! previous 1-star review. ............................. It seemed to work all right for about a week. Then my computer, became erratic, slowed down, and became unusable. It was under warranty to HP - they put in a new hard drive. Now the monitor will not come on at all. It goes right into sleep mode. I have 2 other monitors that work as soon as I plug them in. Not this Dell. I am totally mystified. And so disappointed that it is too late to returrn..

> 24 hourEdit 08/15/16: Its been close to three years since I made this purchase and I have never regretted it for a second. Im actually kind of sad I didnt get two or three of them instead of one. Everything I said in the following review from 3 years ago is still true and I highly recommend this monitor to anyone who is looking for relative color accuracy. Arrived in perfect condition and was easy to calibrate. It looks so so much better than my low-end LED Asus. Im really glad I decided to spring for an IPS, this UltraSharp is everything I hoped it would be. Wanted to edit this to also say; Im somewhere between an amateur and professional graphics artist. I do make my living off my artwork but Im not doing big commercial projects or anything. This level of monitor has been perfect for me so far since I got it. I used to be working with an older LCD monitor and the difference to me is quite stunning. If youre into photography or graphic design, but not professionally enough that you need to buy a $600+ monitor, this is a good monitor to get, I think! Its good, better than a lot out there, but not so high end that it gets out of control expensive. It has good features, a large screen and looks great! I also recommend going to reviews.cnet.com and looking up the review for this specific monitor and maybe comparing it to others in its price range. Thats how I eventually decided to buy it! The reviews there are very thorough and all conducted in the same manner so its much easier to compare specs than looking at random Amazon reviews, though those are super helpful too! :) Happy hunting!

> 24 hourI have always enjoyed my Dell flat-screens and felt they were a grade above the alternatives in build quality. As an IT professional I get hands on with many others and have not seen or used one that I preferred to my Dell. However, my Dell monitors have always been purchased by my employer, at significant expense. So when I needed a monitor due to taking a new job I went to work trying to find one that I would be happy with. When I came across this one I was very happy to see that there was an option to have another Dell that would meet my needs, that I could afford. I was very tempted to step up and buy the more expensive model to get the claimed color accuracy but am satisfied that I did not. After using this monitor for a month, I am very satisfied with it. The screen is definitely larger than the one I was using before, I thought it was a 24 as well but perhaps not. I am very happy that it is 1920x1200. It pairs perfectly with my Dell 2007FP which is 1600x1200. The 1680x1050 I was using before always annoyed me that it was larger but with lower resolution, I never understood that trend in the industry. This monitor is notably brighter and whiter than the Dell2007FP it sits next too. Out of the box I had to reduce the brightness, it was just too much. In summary I will say unless you are a professional in need of perfect color matching, I cannot see a reason that you would be disappointed with this monitor.

> 24 hourI had a 24 LCD Dell monitor for a while that treated me well. From everything Ive read and experienced, Im a believer in Dell monitors. This new LED monitor is no exception. The image is bright and vividly clear. Its such high quality, in fact, that it makes the age of my older monitor (now owned for 6 years) very apparent. The old monitor has that sepia effect creeping in, and the new monitor has made that so clear that its really starting to get under my skin.. Dells evil plot to get me to order another one? Maybe.. Needless to say, this is an excellent product. Dell monitors are long-lasting and reliable, and this one provides the sharpest image Ive ever had with a computer. I think that LED technology makes a big difference with text, so websites really pop on this monitor. Considering my old 24 LCD Dell Monitor cost me $650 at the time, Im quite happy with my investment in the new Dell UltraSharp LED. Im also really happy to finally be on the dual monitor train. As a guy working behind a computer screen for eleven years, its astonishing that I havent yet. Already its making a significant difference in my productivity. At this price, this level of image quality and Dells reputation of building stellar displays, I dont see how you could go wrong. Order it now!

> 24 hourAfter 8 years of use, Ive tried to replace it three times, and keep putting it back on my desk. The main feature that I find indispensible is that its a 16:10 ratio monitor. With most of the design experts at my favorite multibillion dollar transnational corporations insisting on shoving controls into the top and bottom of their windows that would be otherwise buried in dialog boxes three deep, the horizontal space it provides is essential. Aside from its endurance, the other feature Ive found most useful is the port selection. I use mine as a mechanical KVM between Linux/Mac/FreeBSD/Windows all week- the USB hub and selection of video ports really come in handy. VGA is still a thing on servers, and the DVI port is easily converted to HDMI with a dongle.

> 24 hourGreat monitor, IPS is on point. The LED on the monitor can be a little bright if you keep them in a dark room, but its easy to fix if it bugs you. The colors and quality are one of the best Ive ever seen. Ive been running three of these together for a few years now, and I believe it to be a problem with my AMD graphics card at first but I did have some issues driving three of these in Windows. Being a 1920x1200 monitor, almost everything worked just fine but occasionally you do come across a game that stretches or doesnt look right even when proper display settings are in place. Thats probably because almost everything is built for 1920x1080, youll definitely run into times where you find wallpapers for 1920x1080 wallpaper sizes only but its not so much of a problem now. I would have given these monitors 5 stars but there are just a few quirks that leave me unable to do that. There is a tiny tiny bit of latency being that it is IPS and that cant really be helped being that this an IPS monitor so you should know what youre getting into. If I reviewed this a few months ago I would have considered the 5 stars, but it seems that Dell has really dropped the ball with something regarding these monitors because there is an issue with Windows 10 (possibly just the November 15 update and beyond) regarding EDID support I believe, or something where this monitor gets knocked into 640x480 and the only way to fix it is to unplug the power for a bit and replug it in. It sounds like user error but if you search for this monitors model number followed by Windows 10, youll see people having issues with this specific monitor. I believe the 12 in the model number (U2412M) designates 2012, as in this is a 2012 model - so keep that in mind that it appears that Dell has several successors now. For its time it was a star and must have, but that time has moved on now.

> 24 hourI bought this monitor for use with photo editing. I calibrated the monitor right away using a spyder pro. The difference was small, but now it is accurate. After I started using this monitor, I realized my eye strain was much less than original LCD screed that came with the computer. This monitor is also very sharp, you can see amazing details. After using it for 4 months Im very happy, my only down side is, the plain white (websites etc.) look a bit warm, before and after calibration. Also on right edge and left edge there is a little color shift (pinkish on the right greenish on the left) when looking at plain white screen, (browser, word document etc.) The shift is barely noticeable, and you really have to look to see it, but its there. It doesnt interfere with my editing at all, but its worth bringing up, and hence 4 out of 5 stars. Anti glare coating is amazing, and I have not experienced the frosted look if you crank up the brightness all the way, which is way too bright for any situation, that is the only time I see a bit of frosted look Overall I would highly recommend the monitor, colors are sharp crisp and vivid. Sharpness is amazing, and there is very little eye strain when using it. If it werent for a very slight color shift from left side to right side of the screen (Im very picky like that) I would give the monitor a solid 5 star review.
