This will trap finer particles. If you live in an area with lots of dust, spend the money and buy these.

No dings or bent frame on this one although it was not particularly packaged in robust fashion: just cardboard and cellophane. I replaced my MERV 8 filter with this MERV 13 Filtrete and was surprised that this new one makes less noise. The MERV 8 was relatively loud and my wife and I both expected that the finer Filtrete would be even louder, but its whisper quiet. I hope its doing something. :) The Filtrete has a lot tighter fit in the air duct so I had to work it in gingerly until it was fully seated. The MERV 8 was loose and needed foam shims to keep it in place. I like the tighter fit as we can have confidence that air is not finding its way through the gaps. We are using these MERV 13s as air purifiers in case of wildfires in our area. Over the last 3 years weve seen a lot of fire activity in Northern Cal and the air quality in our area has varied wildly. Instead of buying expensive HEPA air purifiers like our friends, were using these 3M MERV 13s to improve air quality in our house. The EPA recommends this approach so hopefully they are right.

I have a lot of environmental allergies. And, now that there is a quarry operating 24/7 behind my property, filtered air has become critical. Filtrete filters maintain their structural ingrety much longer than anything else I’ve seen and tried on the market. But, I still have to use the 1900 version and change it out every 3 weeks. So, buying these in this kind of pack really helps.

Your Hvac unit is not meant to truly filter the air. This item will increase the static pressure of your system causing the fan motor to break more frequently. At worst it will kill your compressor. Buy a hepa filter unit thats designed to remove pollen from the air. A $200 dollar unit will save many thousands of dollars of wear and tear on your hvac system.
