I am hard on products and this product is extremely durable and easy to use. Its also very inexpensive compared to other 5Tb external hard drives .

I use the G-Technology 5TB external HD to store and run my Photo Library so that I can free up storage space on my Mac Pro Laptop. Transfer speed is very good compared to my other external HD. I would recommend it.

This external drive has been nothing but junk from the day I got it. I have spent numerous hours attempting to get this 5 TB drive to work properly, but one day it will mount, the next day it will not mount. This has caused me to reformat this drive at least a dozen times. I got so fed up I called customer service and because it was under the three-year warranty, they told me to send this in for repair. Sounds great right? Is there anyone out there that feels secure about sending all their personal data to someone they do not know, where they can access the drive and get to your banking and personal information? Of course theyre going to tell you that they are safe and can be trusted. I personally know of a tech rep who worked on the receiving end of these products that were sent in for repair. He absolutely agreed with me stating never to trust them. So I am stuck with a paperweight that never worked right from the beginning. I have 11 other western digital external hard drives and five of them failed within the first year. I will never buy another western digital product again. Save yourself some headaches and money and do not buy this product. Customer service gets a 3 out of 10 stars.

Worked perfectly

For a product that claims to be designed for heavy duty use, I was hopping to get some miles out of it before it fails. However my experience was the opposite, it failed me after plugging it on my computer couple of times. The speeds weren’t great either, but I was looking for durability rather than velocity. I understand that it was probably a defective unit. But When I try to get an EXCHANGE, I couldn’t do it without paying more money. To be fair customer service was trying to help me, but for some reason they couldn’t match the prices. At the end I ended up returning it, and look for something better.

I used it to back-up my MacBook Pro before updating the system.

Durable? Rugged? No way. This thing turned into a useless brick in less than two years and took all my data with it. Should have listened to the reviews warning about the shoddiness of Western Digitials products. Ill never buy from them again.

Have used Lacie drives primarily but bought this one to see how it compares and it went out within a year. They will send you a replacement, which is refurbished and do not cover any data recovery. Find something else!
