> 3 dayI am a long distance cyclist. I was able to link the Garmin Edge 1030 to my smart phone and download a course from ridewithgps. The Edge was easy to use for short rides and I was easily able to upload them to Strava. However, when I attempted a 400K ride this past Saturday with the external battery pack the unit ran out of power much earlier than expected (about 10 hours vs the expected 40 hours). Had to go into battery conserve mode, but unit eventually went dead. I suspect there could have been a problem tapping into the external battery. Both the Edge 1030 and external battery pack were fully charged prior to the 400K. Also, the unit can easily steer you in the wrong direction if the ride with gps course has overlapping sections. I found that out the hard way by going off course over the high bridge E of Ft Pierce FL.

Setup was relatively easy and it connected to my accessories easily with the exception of my pedal cadence monitor- need to figure that out...Some of this had to be done outside for satellite connectivity. This is my first garmin device- loved the dedicated computer (as opposed to using my phone on rides).
