Garmin Edge 830, Performance GPS Cycling/Bike Computer with Mapping, Dynamic Performance Monitoring and Popularity Routing

> 3 dayI really wanted to like the 830 as its my first bike computer. It seems like I need to power off the device and restart just to refresh the Strava segments...when I can get them to sync. The ambient temperature sensor seems to be 7-8C higher than actual temperature. Battery life is great though. Considering this device is 3 years old and Garmin still didnt fix some of the bugs through firmware updates is pretty bad.

> 3 dayI went through a couple other cycling head unit / gps brands before going with the Edge 830, and in the end this was the one I kept. Aside from all the expected features present in the 830 that other branded head units have (which I wont go over here - if you want spec details you can find many articles online about the 830), what stood out for me in a real world scenario is just how responsive and useful the touch screen feature was. Instead of having to recall which button does what, using the Edge 830 was as easy to learn as using my iPhone. Also notable is that I didnt have to remove my gloves to use the Edge 830 (though I have to remove the same gloves to use my iPhone!). Ive already used the GPS feature to discover new routes in the mountains, as well as using the GPS on familiar trails to lead me to new side trails that I wouldnt have discovered on my own. The 830 also connects to my on-bike sensors flawlessly and consistently. If you are debating on the 530 vs. the 830, I will say that the 830 is well worth the extra cost, and mainly because the touch screen feature is faster, easier to use, and very responsive.

> 3 dayThis is literally the worst piece of technology I have ever had the misfortune of owning. Constantly disconnecting, freezing up, resetting itself, etc, etc. I despise it and wish I could bring myself to smash it with a rock.

> 3 dayThis is my go to device for tracking my riding stats in real time. The map routing and tracking are superior to anything else I’ve tried.

> 3 dayIve had this for 12 months now. I absolutely hate it. It has the potential to track countless performance metrics. However, it constantly, and without warning, drops my connected devices. Often, it drops everything and connects back to everything but my Garmin watch, which tracks heart rate. Everything is connected via Ant+. My phone is disabled on rides and it still drops them. I lost my heart rate 4 sepatate times on my most recent ride. Garmins support is awful. They have acknowledged this issues for years and have provided no fix. I will be getting rid of all garmin devices and going with a more reliable set of devices.

> 3 dayEverything you could want in a GPS cycling computer. Route planning, turn by turn directions, weather, text messages, calories burned. It even warns of sharp turns in the road. Top notch!
