I bought this book from a list of books to help your child with anxiety. I wish I had looked into it more before purchasing it. My child is 5. I find the fact that the book is in verse made it unnecessarily unclear. I wish the strategies were more spelled out. That being said, it seems to be targeted to a school aged child, but it looks like a book for preschoolers. I think the window of usefulness is very small. My daughter is not at a point where she can pinpoint what she is anxious about all the time. I was hoping the book would help with more general anxiety and not specific situations. We’re just not to that point yet. We’ll stick with our breathing exercise books for now.

Timely subject for these strange days. I read it out loud online for my class and they and their parents LOVED its message and the fun, kid-centric way it is explained!

My son is literally BEGGING me to buy more Diggory Doo books. This was his first and he loved it so much. He completely understood the lesson and related to it deeply. We will be getting more of these books!

This is probably good for an 8yr old. For a kindergartener, it brought up situations he’s not yet familiar with so, I opted not to read it to him as he would probably get anxious about these future situations (school tests, etc) Also, I didn’t much like how it seemed to say ‘don’t be anxious, do this instead’ it seemed almost victim-blaming. I would have preferred a different approach.

My daughter is 3. While I agree that most of the content in the book is geared towards school-aged kids, my daughter was mesmerized by the getting shots part, and she asked to read about it many times. She remembers how she was afraid to get a flu shot in the fall, so shes definitely using the book to process it. Unexpectedly, I myself loved the book! That spread where the dragon says what if I cant, does a somersault, and says what if I can is so cool. My habitual behavior is finding excuses in order not to things, but now I bring up that picture in my mind and it helps me to act bolder! Update: My daughter is now 3 years and 11 months. We brought up the need to get our flu shots soon, and she said she doesnt want to. We agreed to re-read this book about Diggory Doo to prepare. On the day of she was very proud that she got the shot the first of the family, she distracted herself by thinking about something nice (a gingerbread man in her case!), and she didnt cry at all.

Perhaps its because I am a writer so Im more critical, but this book is SO unnecessarily wordy and terribly written. We can do better for books like this! My kindergartener lost interest right away and now wont even look at the thing. Glad it helped some kids. Mine was definitely disinterested.

Use this in bibliotherapy, the kids are into following the storyline and characters through different topics.

I really like this series, and I love Diggory Doo. Sadly, this book wasnt what I expected. The topics covered in this book are more for school aged kids with tests and sports events. Not the separation anxiety and other fears my 3 year old struggles with. Im saving this book for later. Maybe it will be more relatable then...
