HTC SteamVR Base Station 2.0

08-06-2025I wanted to buy two base stations for my VR setup in June but Valve was out of stock at the time. Amazon came through with these. If you set them up properly for standing or room experience, they work great. Key point, dont leave them on all the time. The lasers inside spin at extremely fast RPM and you will wear out the base stations over time. Thats very important. With bluetooth this is easy, but wired, you have to manually unplug the power to the base stations. I left mine on for two months and I felt like a complete imbecile. Thankfully, I only play VR games infrequently because Im busy. They still work fine, but Ill be monitoring them over time for stability and performance issues.

> 3 dayNot sure if these are refurbished units because the original basestations that came with my Valve Index dont have this problem. Both of the basestations I purchased here off of amazon required a firmware update and both were bricked, refused to start again, after powering down after the update.

> 3 dayConfirmed compatible with the Valve Index, but mounting hardware is not included. Box contains literally just the sensor, and the power brick.

Greater than one weekThe base station itself is the exact same as the ones sold by Valve. That is not my issue. My issue is these are $50+ more expensive than the base stations sold by Valve on Steam. That wouldnt be that big of a deal if these base stations from HTC didnt also come with objectively worse accessories. Mounting hardware: Haha get screwed. You thought your $200 base stations would come with mounting hardware just like the $50 cheaper ones from Valve? Power cable: Not only is the cable that comes with these base stations sold by HTC significantly shorter than the ones sold by Valve, but it is also stiffer and does not hang nicely straight down the wall. The power brick is also much larger than the one Valve gives you. Overall: DO NOT BUY unless you absolutely cannot wait to get them from Valve. You will need to buy mounting hardware and have to deal with a shorter/uglier cable.

> 3 dayI ordered two of these base stations, the first one was broken the very moment I plugged it in. (Red light of death). Upon ordering a replacement, the same incident except the box that the second one came in was also terribly smashed. Which could be due to where it was shipped out from but still... I dont recommend buying a base station here unless youre desperate, but chances are you might receive a broken/malfunctioning base station more so then a perfectly functioning one. They also come with a short ugly cord, and no wall mount despite being a much higher price then from Valve.

> 3 dayThis light house has a markup of $50 compared to the steam store light house, but at least I can order it lol. Also it doesnt come with mounting hardware which seems odd but a 3 pack of mounts is really cheap and I like them better than the mounting hardware that comes with the index.

> 3 dayI ordered two base stations and it came quickly and was packaged well. When I got everything out and plugged up is when red flags showed up. One of them had the number ‘7’ and the word “loud” all over the sides in sharpie. The other sounded like a jet engine when plugged in. Both flashed blue for a moment then red, meaning critical hardware failure. On the plus side, returning them was easy.
