Much better than expected. The leather at the bottom isnt the suede-like leather I remember from college, but rather a thinner, smooth leather. My son was very impressed by the size and number of pockets as well as it having a place for his water bottle. I think it will work great for him.

Definitely not good for patches, the main reason I got this bag to was fill it up with patch’s which did not go so well, iron patches do not want to stick to it but I don’t mind sewing them, But if you looking for a backpack to iron on patches this is not it
