> 3 dayUpdate 1-2-2021: Well it seems I made an error in my original review. If you do change your wifi name or password you can re-connect the device without loosing all your settings. The key is to not select reset device when re-connecting it, which is what i did. Then it will go straight to the wifi setup section without loosing names or schedules. However this isnt mentioned anywhere in the manual (which is just a little card telling you to use the app). I had to get the information from users at the Kasa forum and it took a while to find. So Im uping my rating, but still docking 1 star for this to not be documented in the user guide or app. Original Review: I liked this thing so much that I bought another one. They were both super easy to set up and the app works great to controll each outlet individually and create schedules to help save energy. The plugs are spaced far apart enough to be able to plug in USB power supplies and other wall warts without covering an adjacent outlet. Overall the thing is great and I would have given it 5 stars easily. And now for the bad, and I mean really bad! I routinely change my wifi password about once a month as recommended by security experts. This is where it completely fails. The app has no place to change this. Not even in the settings for the device. Their support says I have to reset it to factory settings and set it up again! This is a major failure. So now I have to setup 12 outlets again with names and schedules. I was going to buy a couple more of these, but now forget it. 12 outlets is enough to have to redo every month. Unless TP-Link pushes out a firmware or app update to correct this horrible oversight I wont be getting any more. Thats why I only gave it 3 stars. When and if they fix this issue it becomes a 5 srar product.

> 3 dayI bought this one because I kept looking for recommendations on the best smart power strip, and this one kept landing at the top of the lists. Really great strip, spacious so you never run into that issue where you cant use all of your plugs because theyre too close together, easy to set up, and if all else fails, it is a nice sized blunt object which can be used against attackers. It would be neat if the USB plugins were smart too, but otherwise, this is a terrifically quality smart strip. While not the smartest object to ever exist, it is probably significantly smarter than some former presidents I could name (wow, I got political commentary ovah here! And I have left it open to interpretation, so that regardless of your political preference you can pretend I am not very obviously referring to Donald Trump!).

> 3 dayWas enjoying the smart features of this power strip for a while, especially the remote control on/off feature, but a storm caused a power outage in my neighborhood. After getting power back, this power strip just refuses to connect to my wifi again via the Kasa app. Ive reset the power strip numerous times by holding one of power buttons on the strip per the instructions but I get the same error message in Kasa cant connect to your wi-fi network. Also tried reinstalling the Kasa app to no avail. Still works as a dumb power strip but I obviously have to physically be present to switch the individual outlets on/off so no different than any other power strip. Not what I bought it for. The devices I had connected to it survived the power outage, so at least the surge protection works as well. Id look elsewhere for a smart power strip however.

> 3 dayI wish they had an option with a longer cord. I use this item in my garage and due to the short cord I cant really use it for what I needed it for. If they ever offer an 8ft or 10ft option I would definitely but a few.

> 3 dayIf you’re looking for a “standard” layout power strip with Wifi capability and 6 individual control capability then this one works great! No issues, app works just fine with my iPhone 13 pro utilizing 2 out of the 6 plugs. iOS 15.6

> 3 dayI purchased on November 8 from Amazon Warehouse in like new condition. Just received today, opened the box and to my surprise the authentic item has been replaced with a knock-off (see image). Amazon customer service was top-notch, as always; Ive been an Amazon customer since 2003 and a Prime member since the program launched so fortunately I have a long track record of integrity. However, this still upsets me because even if Amazon made it right, Im still part of the chain of this scam as the unlucky person who happened to buy a TP-Link Kasa power outlet and receive the fake product. Amazon customer service told me to donate the fake one, but I threw it out. I would never donate a knock-off product with questionable safety inspection; what if it burns down someones house?! As for the ACTUAL TP-Link Kasa - I love it. I own two, both purchased new from Amazon within the last year. They take a minute to set up, but I love that I can control each outlet from the unit or from the TP-Link app and that it has USB ports as well. I use these for my aquariums, so my CO2 and lights can be controlled on different on/off schedules. Bonus: you can monitor energy use! I cant vouch for how accurate it is, but it would be helpful to calculate operating expenses if I wanted to turn my hobby into a side business. Note: the 3-outlet version of the Kasa power strip doesnt allow you to monitor energy use in the full extent that this one does. All in all, I still want/need my third power strip, but I wouldnt chance buying it from the Warehouse again. Its unclear to me why Amazon doesnt have quality control of their Warehouse items (ESPECIALLY electronics!) I would just purchase it new. At the time I bought mine, there were 16 available in the same condition. Im not sure if all of those were scam items or just mine. I just want to warn others because this was a huge disappointment.

27-11-2024My review for the Kasa Smart Plug Power Strip HS300: The Kasa Smart Plug Power Strip HS300 is a mature product option for anyone looking for a smart power strip that can be controlled from anywhere with a smartphone or tablet and with internet access -- but not from a computer or through a browser -- three stars off for this--you must use only the Kasa app with all of the tracking and security risks of doing so. The strip has six individually controlled outlets and 3 USB ports (but only older type A -- and none of them can be switched or controlled). Everything is controlled with the Kasa Smart app -- but the app is not for those with limited or low vision. The app uses poorly contrasting, very small fonts == none of which can be changed or enlarged. Another star off for this. You can use voice commands to control the power strip with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant -- and they generally work well if your device naming is clear and distinct or the voice assistants may be confused by phrases turn off the kitchen light and turn off the kitchen coffee maker. The Kasa Smart Plug Power Strip HS300 offers surge protected -- but the amount of protection is not closed. I recommend using a surge protector or UPS with surge protection with known protection levels rather than relying on whatever protection this strip may supply. Also, there is no device warranty on the surge protection, so with up to nine devices plugged into the strip, its best not to take the risk of an unknown amount and quality of surge protection. Pros: Individually controlled outlets The bright white LEDs for each outlet can be turned off, but not the grounded or protected LEDs. Voice control compatible Power monitoring on each outlet Power switches at each outlet can be used when WiFi is not available. Cons: Mature technology No support for other than 2.4 WiFi Must use the Kasa app to set up and control the strip and outlets Hardware made in Vietnam Kasa app made in China (tracking and security risks) No support for computer or browser set up or control No support for other than USB A cables No indication of how much surge protection there is No surge warranty USB outlets cannot be switched off and have no LED indicator lights.

Greater than one weekWorked nicely at first was able to get setup no issue. However, some plugs lost connection after a few weeks of usage ,so I can no longer control them from the app. Resetting the device doesnt fix the issue. Just note that the device is buggy and you shouldnt plug anything essential into it as it seems prone to fail easily.

> 3 dayI live on a 20 acre parcel, we dont use passwords as there is nobody within 1/3 of a mile in any direction, and this Kasa product is prevented from joining my Wi-Fi network unless I set a password for the 35 other devices that are already on the network...now I know Kasa is trying to do the right thing, but really? Warn people about the dangers of an open network, but dont prevent me from doing it anyhow, its just dumb...hope this helps!

> 3 dayDO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER. Let me start with a review of the seller. I ordered my product as “used - like new”. There’s a certain quality expected with the “like new” title, and this did not live up to it. To start - the plug was sent in its regular product packaging, and wasn’t taped or sealed shut. I was able to open it on my doorstep with one hand. My delivery driver commented on how it wasn’t taped shut. Literally anyone could have opened it and stolen it, there was nothing keeping it closed but the way the box is made. That was it. They could have at least used the shipping label to keep it shut as the literal bare minimum. Next - the plug was NASTY. I’m talking 3 Clorox wipes worth of dirt and grime. There were scuff marks on it and it was sticky and slimes? I mean seriously - there’s a pandemic, you’re listing it as like new. They least you should be doing as a seller is wiping it down and taping the box shut. It was ridiculous. There was dirt in the outlets themselves. The cord was grey (it’s supposed to be white), and there were black marks all over the back. It was just gross. This was far from “like new” and honestly the seller should be ashamed. On to the power strip itself: Fantastic. This thing works so well! I use it to automate my greenhouse and it’s absolutely brilliant. I love that I’m able to track how much energy it’s using, and I’m able to control it with either the SmartThings app or Google Assistant. It makes my life infinitely easier. The flat plug is great too, and the outlets are at 90° so I can fit all my large plugs in without a problem. The 3 always-on usb outlets are great as well. Power strip is a 10/10. Love it. Highly recommend it. This seller is at most a 1/10. Buy from someone else.
