Klein makes great electrical tools that I have a small necessary collection of. Unfortunately this is the only one that didn’t live up to the name. Maybe I got a lemon but this is not the tool that you want giving you misinformation while working with live circuits!

OK, I used it as directed and got completely wrong results. The transmitter flagged a circuit that the receiver was not on. And it missed the circuit it was on. If you trust this thing, you could touch a live circuit and kill yourself. Explanation: Possibly this thing works on a new house with newly wired circuits. But, it does not work on my old house with old wiring. Secondly, it is hard to tell if something may be plugged into a circuit when you dont know where the wires go. I bought this device to trace the wire back to the breaker without ripping out the wall. That means I dont know which plugs are on the circuit. The instructions tell you that the results may be wrong if something is plugged in. Ergo, it is highly probable you will miss something that could be in the attic or another room. Yes, circuits in old houses are a mess. And I did get wrong results for every circuit in the whole house. However, you can flip off the circuit breaker and test all of the outlets and sockets by hand. The transmitter works for that. I decided that method was safe since I could check the transmitter with a lamp. So, I bought a Klein non-contact voltage tester. Also the transmitter shows you when the ground is not connected. That is good when somebody puts a new wall plug on old wire. I found a couple of those. That alone is worth the price of the device. So far, I have not found a reversed neutral. So, I gave it two stars out of five.

I got this on a whim. I didnt really need it, but found out that it does come in handy. I tested it out a couple times and it works great.
