My 2015 Sonata hood struts gave out and would no longer hold the hood open after five years. On the Hyundai parts website it list a single Lift Cylinder - Hyundai (81161-C1000) for a $155.51 ($311.02 for a set). I looked on line for another option and ordered these hood struts/lift cylinders and they fit perfectly and installed in minutes. Be sure to prop your hood open with a piece of wood or some other object to support the hood when you take the old hood strut out. Simply use a screwdriver to pry the clip that holds the old struts on the ball joints and pull the hood strut off (lots of videos on the internet showing how to do this). To install the new hood struts simply snap over the ball joints on the car (no need to pry the clips). Finally, move the hood up and down a few times to ensure it works. It is that simple. These replaced part number 81161-C1000 which can be found printed on the original struts in the car (see attached picture).

OEM parts are $500 plus labor for installation. I bought these for 40 bucks and installed them in ten minutes. Longevity remains to be seen since they’re brand new, but you can’t beat the price.

It fits as expected. You only need flat head screwdriver to unlatch the original. You can snap on the new ones.

This item did not fit my 2015 Sonata sport. These lifts are to long. Spoke with company rep. These are the only lifts they have for this car model so I returned. No problem with return

Works perfectly and installs real quick. I didnt have a helper but I did have a sledge hammer handy as ya can see in the first pic. Theres instructions on this page that walk you thru it if you need them. I glanced over them and got this completed in 3-4 minutes. Sure as hell beats the $100+ quote from the repair shop.

Premium Quality Supports

Lift Supports Depot supports undergo a vigorous QC process to help ensure dependability. Lift supports internal components get assembled and mechanically tested to ensure internal parts are not installed incorrectly or missing. OE quality seals are incorporated to prevent low friction losses and oil seepage. Airline hydraulic oil helps to avoid crystallization and blockage during cold weather.

After painting and curing, lift supports are tested again for pressure and printed with final product information and lot numbers for traceability.

Vigorous Quality Control Process

The supports are pressure-filled and tested one by one for forces to be within accepted tolerances. Pressurized lift supports go through a pre-paint phosphate treating process, which helps the paint adhere properly to the body of the lift support and gives a long paint life.

Most importantly, an automated paint cabin is used for painting and curing in one place. Our lift supports never have premature rusting at the extremities due to the capillary effect of paint in bent areas.

Easy to Install

Most applications are quick and easy to install. Often times requiring nothing more then a flat headed tool to remove and replace. The hardest part is often finding someone to hold the Hatch or Hood while you swap them out.

Easy 4 Step Installation Process

Lift Supports Depot Supports are designed to be easy to install and maintain OEM design. Most install simply with the use of a Flat Head tool, and an assistant to hold the hatch or hood open. We do not recommend doing this alone, many hatches are very heavy and can result in injury if done without help.
