In addition to the Lutron WiFi base device, you may need to buy a Lutron Caseta plug-in dimmer to act as a range-extender for your WiFi system. You can set up one (only one!) plug-in dimmer to act as a range-extender so placement is key for reliable coverage. I have all sorts of Lutron Caseta smart switches and they work flawlessly in comparison to other brands...and trust me...I have bought a lot of smart switches from varying different manufacturers. This outdoor remote switch is in a far corner of my backyard and it has never failed to work or lose WiFi connection. And, its rugged. Really better than other products I have used. Though, I still put a weatherized cover over the smart switch but I wouldnt hesitate to install it in the open air with weather/sprinklers in the area. Providing you install it via the recommendations in the instruction manual.

I was using another brand outdoor smart switch, but it had problems dropping connection and it was often sluggish in its response with on/off commands. I have a small (growing) Lutron Caseta setup, so when I saw this I grabbed it even though it was a little more expensive than I wanted. Im glad I did because it works great! It hasnt dropped once and its very responsive.

I have bought many outdoor plugs by the big name brands and none were easy to hook up. I always had to jimmy(Jerry) rig something to make it work the way they were supposed to. With this on I plugged it in, opened the app on my phone, held the power button down for 10 sec, and then set the right lights and location in the app and I was done. Took 1-2 min tops. The most work was done hanging the string lights. I definitely will be replacing all my other outdoor plus with more of these. It is truly amazing how quick and easy setup was.

Like most Caseta stuff, this is priced at the higher end of its market, but it is a nicely put together package, that seems like itd take a decent soaking. The line lump style is great since it separates the outlets from the device, offering more layout flexibility when attached to walls, and an option for water sealing the couplings, which is not the case with the standard sockets-at-the-bottom devices. I cant speak to its range, I happen to have a caseta lamp dimmer on the opposite side of the wall, so mine is only a few feet away from the mesh.

But worth it for the rock-solid connection and HomeKit integration!

I replaced some older Insteon equipment with the Caseta hub, switches and now this appliance controller. All is working well and is easy to use.

This integrates well with Caseta system/hub and had no problem connecting during setup. This is kind of bulky and designed for outside for things like holiday lights. Would be nice to have a less bulky version for inside use though that could handle higher wattages than the dimmer switch.

So far so good. Works just as advertised.
