Melissa & Doug Jumbo Numbers Wooden Chunky Puzzle (20 pcs)

Nice puzzle but the paint and wood chips easily. Not the old Melissa and Doug quality.

I have 2 year old triplets who LOVE puzzles and we really love Melissa & Dougs chunky puzzle series. One of the triplets is starting to learn his numbers and letters so I was very excited to get this puzzle. The puzzle itself is the usual great Melissa & Doug quality. However, it says its for 3 year olds and I would probably keep it at that age because it really requires some number recognition. The pieces fit in several different places, and since they are numbers (not as exciting as a dog or cow), there isnt the instant recognition of the image. My autistic son (one of the triplets), who can do all of the other Melissa & Doug chunky puzzles, got very frustrated with this one because he learns by figuring out what fits and THEN learns to associate the image with each space. This puzzle will go into the try it again later pile.

I bought this puzzle for my 2 year old son (who absolutely loves puzzles) for Christmas this year. Obviously he hasnt gotten to play with it yet (Christmas is still over a week away), but I received it and it was way beyond my expectations. Its very large, as are the pieces, so theres no chance in anything getting lost. Its also very bright colored, which is great visual stimulation. Im very excited for him to start playing with it. I also recommend getting the matching number puzzle as well.

Im a professional nanny specializing in toddler care. I always request that my parents purchase this puzzle for me to use as a teaching tool. Its amazing how quickly a two year old can learn the ABCs!

Our 2-year-olds enjoy it and it cant be hurting the process of learning the alphabet. We dont mind gathering the pieces (to this and a dozen other messy toys) a couple of times a day. All part of a proud parents routine. :)

My son loves it. He is 2.5 and loves numbers and letters. A great educational tool.

My two year old loves learning the alphabet - and we have several toys that teach it. This puzzle, though, is clearly the best. Perfectly sized letters for grip and the shapes are great for learning how to make the letters fit. This puzzle pretty much facilitated my two year olds learning of the entire alphabet... well, all the letters except W. He still thinks thats an M. :) Highly recommend!
