I didnt expect these headphones to sound as good as they do. The 99 classics plus amazon hd music have been a real joy to listen to. Only gripe, earcups are a little small for my ears, cups rub against my ears. Very comfortable to wear for extended listening sessions. I can only describe the sound as natural and warm, not to bright.

For the money fit and finish are exemplary The wood improves the sound It is comfortable and the headband is self adjusting There is a slight ear sweat in prolonged listening sessions do not necessarily recommend them for use Jin the rain I replaced the cable and earpads O am an audiophile The one negate thing for me is the earpads are not snap on. And the cable is designed to release under pressure. You might like that Highly recommended.

If you look at reviews, people rarely have much bad to say about the Meze 99s. After having them for a few days, I can see why the comments are typically good. Heres my quick take. First, these are really nice looking phones. Fashion cans, as some call them. They seem of excellent build quality and finishing. I havent noticed any flaws out of the box. Uniform wood grain, generally well sorted. Im a sucker for natural wood, so that gets them off on a good foot. These arent very weighty or massive, in terms of full sized headphones. They feel sturdy, though, with everything depending from a spring steel headband. The auto-fit feature works well, making them a breeze to put on. Comfort is good, but not perfect. I find that my ears *just* touch the internal cavity wall of the phones sometimes, and this can build into slight discomfort. But very minor. The ear pads themselves are cushy, and theres a reasonably light clamping force. These wont be good for jogging around or doing parkour. The sound has a strong bass foundation, and goes deep enough to catch the pedal tones of a pipe organ with authority. Nuance is good, but not hyper-critical, as some headphones get. Overall, its a good mix of detail and forgiveness/fun. The 99s are not trying to be perfectly flat in response, but to instead give you a visceral and exciting presentation. Mission accomplished. Nothing is bloated, distorted, or exaggerated. No lack of mids or highs, but not fatiguing levels of either. These are VERY EFFICIENT. Powering them with a portable player or your phone wont be tough. On my Dragonfly Black amp, I am at loud on volume 3/100. Yeah. Concert volume at 5 or 7. Quiet at 1/100. So there you go. Sound isolation is pretty good. Youll notice nearby trench warfare, but the whir of a fan or the clothes dryer will largely fall away. Thus far, worth the money I paid, no question.

As you can tell from my 5 stars, I love, LOVE these headphones. Where do I start? Look, if you are like me and looking to buy headphones in this price range, Im assuming youve been doing research and probably lots of it. If not just google reviews of these headphones. People more qualified than I can break down these headphones better than I can. What I can say is these headphones just sound right. I was looking to upgrade from my Sennheiser Momentum 2s. Another pair of headphones I really like. However it was lacking in some areas. While the bass with those are quite impressive, it did have a tendency to bleed into or overpower other aspects of the music. Also, the mids where a little bit more recessed. I wanted something that was a bit more balanced but not neutral. I would not consider myself a basshead, but I still like the bass to have some punch and impact to it. So after looking at and trying a bunch of headphones in this price range, I stumbled upon these beauties. Not just the looks, that are absolutely gorgeous. It certainly has a sound to match. These checked pretty much all the boxes i was looking for in a headphone. The bass is there, nice and powerful when called upon. It is controlled very well and knows its place. the mids a bit more forward than the sennheiser, but i would say this is still kind of a V shaped sound signature. with just enough emphasis on the low and hi end to make it fun. Treble might roll off a bit near the top end, but it didnt take anything away from the sound, just made it so its not so fatiguing for long listen sessions. Like I said, they just sound right and natural. I listen to just about every style of music. Everything I threw at these, these headphones could handle. I certainly would recommend these headphones for anybody. They just add so much to whatever you may be listening to. I listen to a lot of extreme metal. So if you are like me and like music like that I highly recommend these. I have not found a better pair of headphones that can handle that type of music without getting muddy. For example, I listened to Wormeds new album with these. I was hearing an amout of detail I hadnt heard before. Normally the drums tend to over power everything and little subtle details get lost in the mix. Not with the 99s. Everything had its place and I was even able to pick up the samples and little keyboards parts that I had no idea was there. I also wanted to mention the comfort with these. I listen to music pretty much all day at work. I had no issues with these on. I wear glasses and normally after a little while the pads start pushing the arms into my head and it can be a little uncomfortable. Not with these. I can barely tell I have these on. I was actually worried that they would be too loose, but they arent. They have just the right amount of clamping force to stay in place and seal properly, without making your head feel like they are in a vice. I was told that these headphones produced a lot of microphonics as well. I didnt really notice that. I mean, yeah, if Im listening to something that is quite or I have something paused, you can hear the cord rubbing. At normal listening volumes, it wasnt a problem however. Already wrote a longer review than I intended too. What can I say though, I do absolutely love these headphones and would recommend them. Cant really explain why I think these are so good, youve just got to hear them.

I bought these and the AKG 712 Pros and the Beyerdynamic DT880s headphones. The AKG 712s won the contest. The Beyerdynamic DT 880 came in second. These MEZE headphones are beautiful and come with 2 sets of cords and have the cords divide into the right and left inputs on the ear pieces. To be clear - these are quality headphones. However, I could not pull myself away from the spaciousness and reality of the AKGs. Also, to be clear, I am 65 years old and my hearing is a bit compromised. But, I had my wife ( who hears everything ) take a listen and she agreed. I listened to Billie Eilish, electronic EDM A sides and stuff like JP Saxe and Julia Pruitt. All of these are modern, high quality audio pieces. I listen through my iMac which feeds into the a Musicstream DAC and then into the Schiit Audio Magni amp. This also feeds my JBL Pro 5 powered speakers and a Jamo 8 sub. The sound I get with this without headphones is amazing. It is important to me that the headphones equal or surpass this. Sadly, the Meze dont quite reach this.

I reeeeally wanted to love these headphones, they were so beautiful and the case was amazing but once I put them on my head I noticed they pinched right under my ears causing pain. I thought that meant they needed to be broken in, but than I played some music through them and was thoroughly disappointed in the sound. The bass on some songs were great but any songs with nice vocals or symbols were just clouded and kinda distorted by the bass. The headphones bleed noise like no tomorrow to where I could hear every lyric to the song my dad was listening to even though they were closed back. If they released a more balanced sound with less noise bleed than I would actually consider buying a different pair but these werent for me. If you listened to nothing but rap and hip hop than I can see these fitting your taste more but I literally listen to everything and the sound was just gross.

The sound quality is absolutely amazing. However, Ive had them for only 7 months, and theyre starting to fall apart. The fabric of the inner right ear has torn off, and the left cup is coming apart. While these see daily use, nothing more strenuous than taking them on and off has occurred. Of the many headsets Ive owned, this has lasted the shortest amount of time before noticeable wear and tear was witnessed. Also, something important to note: one must keep their head absolutely still when using them. Any slight movement, and youll hear the metal/screws creak. Even chewing will cause this creaking. Working on multiple monitors while listening to anything, youll hear this creaking frequently while simply moving your head to see the other monitor. Its quite annoying. Overall, I dont think theyre worth the money Ive spent, and I wont be buying another set again.

This is an initial review after a little less than a day of use. So far I am extremely satisfied with the Meze 99 Classics. I got them to replace my recently sold Mr Speakers Mad Dogs, which were excellent sounding headphones but were big, bulky, and I didnt find them terrible comfortable. I wanted a pair of good sounding, closed-back headphones that could be used either at home with my Schiit Bifrost/Lyr stack or on the go out of just my LG G4. So far these are filling out my desires excellently. The Mezes are exceedingly well made and very nice to look at, being made out of mostly metal and wood. A nice bonus is that despite being solidly constructed from metal and wood, these are fairly light headphones. Almost an entire day of wearing them at my desk at work has gone by and theyve yet to feel uncomfortable or put too much pressure on my head. The sound is definitely excellent, although possessing more of a fun sound signature. Those looking for hyper-detail accurate headphones may not be as interested in these. As Ive been listening to the Mezes as I work, I cannot give a detail breakdown of the sound but I can say that they certainly sound excellent. For someone looking for a fun sounding headphone that can be used at home or on the go, these are definitely a pair worth checking out!

These Meze 99 Classics Headphones work best with 5 Instruments in songs. The Meze 99 Classics Headphones allow Guitar, Piano and Bass to be fully represented. I hope to be able to afford Planar Headphones in the future but I will always hold onto these Meze 99 Classics Headphones.

This will be a quick and dirty review as I just received these headphones 7/26. I currently own sennheiser 598s, audio technica ath-m50x, and bose qc25s (strictly for noise cancelling on airplanes). Im not an audiophile, just listing my other headphones so you know what Im comparing to. The Meze 99 Classics sound incredible on everything Ive listened to. Ive listened to country, pop, rock, and jazz through a DAC hooked up to my PC. Ive listened on my cell phone (nexus 6p), tablet etc... Ive listened to cd quality audio and google play music (320kbps) quality and it all sounds great. As Im not an audiophile, I cant use a bunch of fancy adjectives to describe them, but overall they sound clearer than my other headphones. The base / low end is great - tighter than the m50s and stronger than the 598s. The 598s are a great headphone but the classics just sound better in every way to my ears. Obviously, the bose sound terrible when compared with the 99s. The sound is amazing, the build quality is great, but I do have a problem with the ear cups. They are too small in my opinion and put too much pressure on your ears, especially the top of your ears. Im extra biased as Ive had pain in my left ear ever since wrestling as a kid which is irritated by long headphone sessions. I have this problem with the m50s but NOT the 598s. I listened to them for about 2 hours and my left ear was sore the next morning but my right ear was fine. So, this may be nitpicking but the ear cups and drivers will press against your ear depending on the size of your ear. The ear cups on the 99s are smaller than all the other headphones listed above. They are oval shaped instead of being more tall than wide like the shape of your ear. They are padded well but IMO not thick enough as youll feel the driver against your ear. The head band is pretty comfortable and didnt bother me at all over 2 hours. These definitely are not uncomfortable headphones, but if you have large ears or are sensitive to pressure on your ears these may not be the best headphones for you. Im not 100% sure Im going to keep them, but they sound SO good, I might just deal with the discomfort. Im getting in the b&o h6s and sony mdr-1as this weekend and will also add those for comparison in my review. Im trying to find the perfect balance of comfort and sound quality in a closed back headphone. The Mezes definitely meet the sound quality requirements.

The Meze 99 Classics delivers perfect natural sound even to the pickiest of audio lovers. The walnut wood ear cups, soft ear pads, and the spring steel headband will make the 99 Classics an heirloom rather than just a pair of headphones

WOOD TECHNOLOGY

The choice of wood is an inherently difficult one. The rich colors of walnut require the use of air drying, a long and expensive procedure. The process of shaping just a single pair of earcups takes up to 8 hours. The whole process of sanding, lacquering, and finishing lasts 45 days. The wooden components are carefully inspected and no flaws are permitted to reach the final assembly.
