Greater than one weekOMG -- these are without a doubt the most beautiful sounding headphones I have ever listened to; and, Ive listened to plenty. A firm believer in Sennheiser, I thought I would have to wait until I could afford around $1,600.00 to hear the ultimate headphone, even though I own two pairs of Sennheisers already. These cost me over $100.00 more than the 99s each!!! When I read the reviews that ultimately led to their purchase, I was expecting a very mellow, perhaps dark, sounding headphone. Not at all -- this headset needs only two adjectives -- perfectly musical. As a trumpet player, musician, and audiophile I honestly cant believe the accuracy of these cans. The cymbal crashes demonstrate harmonics and tone quality! Yes, thats right, not toneless splashes. Further, the bass is strong, clean and there is no coloration of tone quality in other instrumentation using those same frequencies. This review has been written after first listen out of the box. No break in. Lastly, I flattened the EQ in foobar to make sure I wasnt hearing boosted bass or lowered treble frequencies. Well, I wasnt. These Meze 99 Classics simply sound gorgeous!! You will not find a better sounding pair of cans on the planet for $300.00.

> 3 dayAfter about a year of reading reviews that were all praising these headphones I finally decided to buy it and I am absolutely convinced! The clarity of the sound is the one I was expecting! The whole thing is so light yet the sound is heavily present! (Dont forget to play so some songs for about 48h to give it time to express itself at the fullest)

> 3 dayreally loved these headphones but returned them due to cosmetic issue. In my opinion the headphones I received should have been sold as B stock or Blem as the wooden cup had a natural wooden knot at very edge but was filled in with some type of filler that appeared pinkish after final finish. Though it was a small knot/flaw it caught my eye everytime I picked them up and bothered me as I paid full retail with no discount. They sounded great so I may re buy them again and hope for better quality control.

> 3 dayI am very pleased with these headphones! The build quality is excellent, the sound is excellent, and they are comfortable to wear for extended periods - The audio itself is similar to the Bose CQ35 though the price is closer to V-Modas Crossfade Wirelsss. I would rank these headphones somewhere in between the two. The Bose are more comfortable due to the deep earcups that fully cover your hear, but they do not sound quite sa good as these. The V-Moda sound a little better, but are significantly less comfortable since they are not fully over-the-ear. The only negative to these headphones is that they use two, mono 3.5mm plugs (one for L and R earcup) instead of a single stereo 3.5mm that plus into only one of them. It prevents using things like boom mics and requires that you manage another cable when listening. That aside, they are an absolutely must have for audiophiles in this price segment.

> 3 dayI have a large head and the fact I can grab these and throw them on with 0 adjustment alone is a huge plus. GREAT sound for the money. VERY on the warm side, if you like that. Great for listening, probably dont want to mix with these though. If you like a bit more of a scooped sound consider the 99 neos. which I also own. Love them both but for VERY different reasons

> 3 dayThese sound as good as they look. They are also the most comfortable headphones Ive ever owned. They have bass that you can feel without taking away from the treble. If you like rock or other bass heavy music, get a pair of these. You can thank me later. They are so efficient that you can get great sound from them by just plugging them into your phone. They give me the wow factor that I was looking for. I returned a pair of the Hifiman Sundara because they didnt have any bass and required way too much power to drive.

11-06-2025This is an initial review after a little less than a day of use. So far I am extremely satisfied with the Meze 99 Classics. I got them to replace my recently sold Mr Speakers Mad Dogs, which were excellent sounding headphones but were big, bulky, and I didnt find them terrible comfortable. I wanted a pair of good sounding, closed-back headphones that could be used either at home with my Schiit Bifrost/Lyr stack or on the go out of just my LG G4. So far these are filling out my desires excellently. The Mezes are exceedingly well made and very nice to look at, being made out of mostly metal and wood. A nice bonus is that despite being solidly constructed from metal and wood, these are fairly light headphones. Almost an entire day of wearing them at my desk at work has gone by and theyve yet to feel uncomfortable or put too much pressure on my head. The sound is definitely excellent, although possessing more of a fun sound signature. Those looking for hyper-detail accurate headphones may not be as interested in these. As Ive been listening to the Mezes as I work, I cannot give a detail breakdown of the sound but I can say that they certainly sound excellent. For someone looking for a fun sounding headphone that can be used at home or on the go, these are definitely a pair worth checking out!

> 3 dayIm no audiophile. I just wanted good headphones to game with and listen to music. I used an equalizer and an apple usbc to 3.5mm adapter as an amp. To me, these sounds amazing. The bass can be headache inducing honestly if you arent careful with the equalizer. Soundstage seems pretty good for gaming. Ive always had issues with headphones being comfy for an hour or two and then you start to feel it. These are the most comfortable pair of headphones Ive ever worm. At first, it doesnt feel like you are wearing anything. Build quality is fantastic, I love how they look and the style. Im not sure I would use these for outdoor/outside use, they seem a tad flimsy and fragile? I havent tested it but that is just my 2 cents.

> 3 dayI bought these because every review Ive seen of these said theyd last forever and have too much bass. The build quality seems pretty nice, they could have polished the brass/gold colored fittings a bit more but thats personal preference, the wood cups honestly feel like plastic but Id rather not scrape some off and check... The only way I get the bass I want is EQ and the Xbass on the hip dac. Otherwise Id say they sound pretty good in just about everything Ive listened to with it but Im still not sure I like them enough to keep em...
