Greater than one weekI use Norton Ghost 11 to backup/restore XP partitions, its fast and works great. Boot from CD, choose partition to backup/restore, choose destination partition/file, and you are done. It even compresses the data when doing backup to image file. I tried to boot from the Norton Ghost 14 CD and it gave an I/O error and stopped. Im going back to v11, Ive never had any problems with it.

> 3 dayHaving used earlier versions of this product in corporate environments, this was almost too simple to use. Perhaps the help files could have a staged method of use (ie: geeks really dont need the detail offered in some pages.) Probably the only thing I would wish for is compression so that an image of 50Gb would not be 50Gb. Highly recommended. (Unless things are PERFECT, I never give the fifth start!) 8^)

> 3 dayAs an IT professional I can make Norton Ghost perform the tasks I want it to do. I was able to backup my internal 100GB hard drive to my external 500GB drive without too much difficulty. I have never found a product that does a good job with backing up everything, including the OS, and restoring it good as new with little effort, so I wasnt too surprised to see that this product fails in that area too. Personally, I think people are better off using WinZip to backup critical data to an external medium than using something as hard to use as Norton Ghost. Just expect that when your HD dies, youll need to get a new one, format it, load the OS and your apps from source media, then restore your files from the WinZip backup files. This approach is FAR more reliable than supposed one-step solutions like this one.

> 3 dayI bought this in order to clone my old disk drive when I replaced it with a larger one. Unfortunately Ghost assigned a different drive letter to the new disk, making it impossible to simply swap the disk drives as all the software was looking for drive C, rather than drive G as Ghost had named the new drive. Norton Ghosts Indian Tech Support was available by internet chat only unless I wanted to pay $1 per minute for telephone support... The Indian support rep had NO idea what to do, and did not seem to understand the term clone, and after consulting his/her computerized telephone script screens finally told me to contact Microsoft for further support. I returned Ghost as defective to the vendor and got a full refund on this useless, unsupported software. While researching Ghost problems on the net, I discovered that you can download a free copy of Acronis from Seagate, the manufacturer of my new drive. It could not have been easier to install and run the software. It cloned my old drive onto the the new drive, and I was able to instantly swap the drives with no interruptions in functionality. Note that Seagates free version of Acronis will search for at least one Seagate drive on your system in order to run. If it does not find a Seagate, youll be prompted to buy the license, but in my case, it had no trouble detecting the new drive connected to a USB port. Im very grateful to Seagate for including such a great tool at no additional charge with their drives!

> 3 dayAll the review said this was a easy to use product. After installation it failed to back my C: drive as promised in the literature. I had to GOOGLE for a solution. And finally after doing 7 CHECKDSK command it finally work.

> 3 dayI have been using Ghost for years, back to the good old day when it was PowerQuest. Though there are some other application that are much stronger and have more functionality then Ghost. Symantec has let Partition Magic go by the way side, as after XP it not longer is useable. Do your research before purchasing it.

Greater than one weekIf you want to clone your hard drive get the OEM utility to do so. It is normally offered from from you HD manufacturer. If you want a program to back up data this might be ok, but windows has this utility already built in. I have had more problems with Ghost programs than I can list. I now use seagate disk utility and it works great, and its free. You have to have a seagate disk to use it, but all HD makers have similar utilities.

> 3 dayThe first think you do when reviewing software --- know what you are doing. Dont assume that your Flash drives will magically work with the software. Do I think Norton Ghost is a great product that is most likely useful to people on a network trying to remotely back up and image hard drives? Yes. Do I plan to test it when I get my own wireless network set up? Yes. Do I know how to work it at the moment? No. Ill update this review when I get Norton Ghost fully deployed. I will say that I love Norton in general even if this product is a bit confusing. The domumentation doesnt provide much help.

> 3 dayFor those familiar with Ghost from versions past, you may experience a bit of early confusion with the interface. But that wont last long. Norton did a good job of taking a very powerful backup utility and making it user friendly. Ghost 14 includes many helpful features such as recovery point scheduling, multiple restore options, and of course full drive copying to/from local sources or network ones. It also includes support for Google Desktop which I do not have, so cant really comment on. This would have been a full 5 star product if not for the documentation which seems somewhat inadequate for the number of features the application has. Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews
