I live in my van, so getting power from outlets to charge my batteries is pretty important. I bought this because at the time I had access to an outlet. It worked as expected. It was a little louder than I wanted, but then again, I am in a VERY small space, and I am in very close proximity in the same space as this, so my experience is going to be a bit skewed as a result. But, given what its job is, and the power levels its dealing with, I cant blame this at all for that. It needs to cool itself. I have since lost the ability to use this as that outlet is no longer accessible to me, but for the time I was able to use this, it worked flawlessly. I plan to use it more in the future.

This item has to have a constant power voltage coming into it of 110 to 120 to keep your care battery charged

The PowerMax PM3-55 worked well on the bench and charged my new AGM batteries. I like the fact that the voltage is adjustable. There is a tiny switch that lets you adjust a fixed voltage (set with a small trimpot next to the switch). Important note: The adjustment affects the voltages on either setting of the switch (including the normal setting which affects the voltages during the 3 stages of charging; Bulk, Absorption, and Float), but either way the adjustability is a plus ! The unit did not quite fit (as an exact replacement for the WF-8955 Converter/Charger) in my sons RV (very close though, and probably could have made it work with slight modification). Since this was intended as an upgrade (and the original was still working), we decided to leave well enough alone and leave the original in place. In any case, Im sure I will be able to make use of it as a nice charger for my car batteries when needed.

I work for Mercedes Benz and their equivalent cost 1,000$ from midtronics. This does the same thing for under 200$!!!

Out of box the voltage was set right. Measured 10A from a battery 90%+ full. Waited until morning battery was on 12.2v and measured peak of 46A. After 30 minutes it stabalized at ~40A. Some reviews have you believe these only output about 55% of rated capacity. Not true but you need the proper size wiring at least 4awg with sub 2ft run), enough battery to accept it, and it has to be drained enough. Runs fine off sportsman 2000 open frame generator at 2000ft elevation.

The converter arrived on time and worked perfect right out of the box! My motorhome batteries were low so it ramped right up to 14.6 volts, stayed there for about 2 hours, then dropped to 13.8 volts for about 4 hours then went to 13.2 volts and has maintained there ever since. The next day I turned on the furnace all of the lights and both tvs and it held steady at 13.3 volts. It has only been a few days, but at this point I couldnt be happier with this Power Max Converter! Here is the link to a pdf that shows how to install it, that was easy to follow and worked perfectly. Ive had it now for a couple of months and it is still performing great! [...]

So far - Very quite and works perfectly for powering up the 5th wheel 12volt system. This unit is rated 10 amps higher than the one I removed that had burned up. My 5th Wheel has a battery disconnect switch and I am using this with the batteries completely disconnected. The only power is it having to supply at this point is the solenoid that connects the power distribution station to the rest of the trailer. This is because I am sure the batteries are old and have internal shorts. I cannot get them to take a charge at all. I dont want to spend 200.00 on another set of batteries that will just be sitting for the next 8 months. That is why I have the switch set to full disconnect from batteries. Considering the local camping supply outlet wanted 100 bucks more than this one (for a 55amp unit), I decided to test this unit out. I read the review about the actual output compared to the rated power output being only half of what the sticker states - but when I took out my old 45 amp unit, the sticker on the bottom that had the Quality Control testing specs hand written on it were approximately half of what the sticker said its max rated output was too. So I thought Ill give it a shot. My needs are not any where close to 45/55 amps for the purpose Im using it for. Hope this helps

I replaced my RV converter with this, i expected it to be a temporary measure but its held up fine. Ive got 300 watts of solar panels so it doesnt generally have to do a lot of work but im still impressed it has lasted so long.

My Atwood had brackets factory riveted to secure in place. I transferred those to the Powermax. Make sure your not drilling into to something critical inside if you do this. Also my Atwood was wired into a junction box, the Powermax comes with a standard 120v plug. I added a quality 20amp outlet and was in business. I also changed to 2 6v golf cart batteries wired in series for more capacity. I have been cooking batteries for a few years now. Those days are over. So happy I put this in.
