Received mine today looks good and will work fine, but the picture is misleading. The threads in the picture are approx a half inch, the one I received is a quarter inch. However the description does say its only a quarter inch.

Exactly as Id expect. Its a plastic ball with a screw.

Very flexible. My ipad shakes a lot with this mount. The added length of this mount is the reason. Going back to metal base mount.

This looks good and is purported to have a stronger stainless mounting stud. Obviously it has a integrated hex nut for tightening which is never a problem if you have any RAM arms because you can always tighten one of them on the ball and use it for leverage in tightening the mounting stud. The trouble with this one as Ive discovered is that it moves more, in a bouncing rubber ball sort of way, than my other RAM balls of the type that are a ball on a metal shaft. Ive used these for mounting a camera on my motorcycle to keep other drivers honest and this one jiggles around and provides blurry video. Its fine when stationary but unacceptable when traveling down the street over bumps and other shocks.

I have been generally very pleased with RAM products, but this one is an exception. The plastic hex flange breaks far too easily, and does not live up to the RAM reputation in my opinion. I am glad that the thread is indeed stainless steel, but that doesnt really matter once the flange breaks, because the whole ball attachment is now useless. I didnt tighten this up super tight, and was not over-loading the ball either. I had this mounting a bluetooth speaker to my bike, at about the mid-point of the speaker (i.e. this ball wasnt being loaded with all that much torque). The flange snapped within about 1 year, whereas my other RAM products in the same environment are still going strong. I will contact RAM to see if they will do a warranty replacement. In the future, I will try to find an aluminum flange ball attachment from RAM instead of this plastic one.
