First off I really like this keyboard itself. It came on-time and well-packaged, complaints there. Before I say more, let me be clear I am not an avid video gamer; I mostly use my computer for regular boring old stuff like emails, internet surfing, and document writing. I play the occasional video game but nothing intense that requires quick key presses. This will be important later. The keys feel great to type on, not terribly stiff but plenty of tactile feedback and I havent experienced any sort of typing fatigue. It comes with a sample set of extra key switches so you could experiment with what you like best and I guess replace all the switches with a different type if desired. Its important to note that this keyboard comes with only one or two of each type of switch, not full sets. I like the switches included with the keyboard but the ability to swap switches may be important to some. The backlighting is plenty bright, even in daylight, and features a good range of brightness settings. The keyboard allows you to cycle through some preset colors and quite a few different lighting routines by using function keys alone. Now to the software. Unfortunately the software is pretty much unusable for a few reasons. One, all of the different lighting program names are mismatched. For example theres a setting named something like snowfall which lights random keys in a pattern that looks like raindrops hitting the ground, but in the software the snowfall name is tied to the setting that makes the keyboard cycle through a rainbow configuration of lights. Not a big deal on its own but annoying. Two, you can set up the lighting however you want within the software, but when you restart the computer the keyboard resets back to whatever settings it was on without the software. Meaning when you use the function keys on the keyboard without using the software, those settings are always preserved, but if you want to use a custom setting youve configured through the software, youll need to open the software and select that setting every time you restart your computer. (Therefore its easier just to use a preset within the keyboard itself and ignore the software entirely). Three, a big draw of this keyboard for gamers should be that the software has a section that allows you to set each individual key to a specific color and effect. For example youre supposed to be able to set the WASD keys to, say, blue, and maybe the number keys to yellow, and the shift and space keys to green, and so on and so forth. Unfortunately this section of the software is entirely non-functional. When prompted to select a key to program, the software doesnt allow you to do anything and clicking on keys does nothing. Its as if the developers had the idea to customize individual keys but never got around to actually including that functionality in the software. Overall, the product loses a star for really bad software, but I want to emphasize that the hardware itself is wonderful. Even without the software, for the price, this keyboard is well worth the money, so I do recommend purchasing it unless you absolutely must have the functionality of programming individual key colors.

I picked this keyboard based on the reviews amazing quality for the price. Aluminum base with semi clicky mechanical keys. I got the brown keys version really good compromise for gaming and general use IMO. Going to keep an eye on this brand.

First, let me talk about my title. I said it was Fully Programmable - on-board. What this means is that you can download the software and go in and change any key you want to be any other key you want. For instance if you wanted to set the / key to say be q all you have to do is open the software click the key and then click apply. If you want to change that key to be a large macro you can do the same thing just select the key in the software and click macro and type you maco very easy! Changing how the keys light up is just as easy. Now, here is where all those computer nerds out there are going to get excited. Those macros are stored on-board meaning that if you program it with your personal computer and than swap to your work computer your profile comes with it. I work with a dos based system that logs me out all the time and because of this I need to log in all the time! This computer does not allow me to install anything to the computer so I was not able to load the software onto it but I was able to put the keyboard on my personal computer install the software and than add a few macros to get me through my log in script. Now, when I need to log in I just press 1 button and than wait for a few seconds while it types out my user name, tabs over types out my password hits enter and than does a few things to get me to the screen I need and everything taken care of. I than set that specific key to glow a different color to help me remember what it does. Plugged the keyboard into my work computer and it allowed me to log in without a hitch. I do want to also mention Coastal is the lighting scheme you must pick in order to set your own lighting up. Not sure why they have the name as Coastal but yeah. The keyboard itself is made out metal and actually has some good weight to it. Not actually heavy but for sure not light! I have 2 complaints with this and they are a bit minor. The first has to do with taking the keys off. They supply you with 2 tools in order to do so and with the plastic one I was able to get my KeyCaps off pretty easily but it left a scratch on the key caps that is not really avoidable. With the keys them selfs this is even worse as I tried on 5 of them to gently get them off and broke the pieces of plastic that hold the keys in. Now, this has not affected me too much but I had great difficulty getting it taken care of so that I could try the different button. My other complaint has to do with the fact that the keys have rather sharp edges. Thais means that when I am clicking hte keys I am find but if I do it for too long my fingers start to hurt especially my thumbs.

I have used membrane keyboards for decades. I had never had the experience of a mechanical keyboard, and finally decided to get one. That was not this one. But, I wanted something a little flashier than the one I had before, so I got this one later. :) They are, of course, kinda pricy. This one however, was a decent price. So I bought it. Yes, I know there are better ones out there. And the switches on this one (in this case, the Outemu Browns) are either good enough for beginners or absolute trash, depending on who you talk to. But as the headline says, this review is from a beginner standpoint. My previous keyboard had Outemu Brown switches as well, and as I liked the tactile bump, I stuck with them when I got the Redragon. And really, Ive been quite happy with it. Now I will say, as Ive started to explore the world of mechanical keyboards, Im realizing that theres so much better. But, it looks like I can mod this thing, so thats what Im going to do. I generally like the look, and the overall feel of it. But I need that thock. Basically, if youre coming from a standard membrane keyboard, this is a decent keyboard. I dont regret the purchase at all. I went to help my dad with some computer issues he was having, and used his e-waste keyboard, and couldnt believe the difference. I dont know why I didnt switch to mechanical sooner. If you dont want to spend $100 or more on a keyboard, and want something decent and with RGB (I suggest getting pudding keycaps for an even better light show), and you dont care about the enthuiast side of mechanical keyboards and/or this is just a starter...yeah...this works.

I have purchased several Redragon brand items. K556 keyboard, Vampire Elite Mouse, and even the Zeus Headphones. All have been excellent quality! This keyboard in particular is very sturdy, has some weight to it to prevent it from sliding, durable solid feel for those who smash keys, and can keep up with quick strokes! Yes it is a wired keyboard and is does NOT have wireless abilities. Keeps you from having to charge it for using the light up RGB. Its very customizable with RGB colors and can handle different key switch colors like brown, red, blue or black. Black is the most quite, red is second to that, then brown and is more of a tactile sound, and blue that is very clacky. The back board and underside of the keyboard is made with metal. The keys have Shiney texture around the sides of the keys and a grippy texture on the surface. It does come with a few things like tools to help you remove keys and switches if you want or need to change or replace. It also comes with a set of demo switches so you have a better understanding of what kind of switches you would like to change too for the future. Along with all of that it comes with a cool sticker and user manual. This is an excellent keyboard for those who like having a solid board that doesnt take up alot of room, yet still wants 100+ keys. There is software available if you want it, go to the redragon website and look for the software tab. The software makes it more indepth with the color customization for the RGB. By the way, for a black keyboard the RGB is rather bright and can be dimmed. I believe its bright due to good quality and shiney sides of the keys. All in all, a very good choice. If you like a sturdy board that doesnt slide around your desk, you like a board that is durable and can handle some abuse, and or you enjoy the customization of switches and colors, then THIS is the board for you. Amazon does tend to have it cheaper than the actual brands website at times so just keep your eyes open. Good quality keyboards can get rather pricey and Id say this is TOP quality material for an inexpensive board! Enjoy!!

First off, this was recommended to me as a good all around keyboard. As a touch typist this is important. Unfortunately my daughter fell in love with the colours and and the sturdiness, so I will have to reorder, and this review will never be complete :D. We are becoming a Redragon family. We tried it with games, papers, and a few other things. THE GOOD: Casing and deck are aluminum, and this quality shows. Yes, real metal with brushed accents, top and sides. VERY solid. Its enough to not flex, and it does not slide around on your desk. Some of Redragons more expensive models dont even have metal cases (why?)! Software has lots of adjustments to colours, brightness, patterns, as well as to responsiveness. Cable is very thick, and long enough if you want to put it in your lap. Keycaps are rounded, and comes with a few spares, as well as a removal tool. Its not too noisy, but very responsive. THE NOT SO GOOD: Adjustment feet dont go very high at all, and only have one setting. The plastic that the keycaps are made with started to go shiny after only 1 WEEK of usage (why?). No wrist rest, but this is minor issue. We purchased the brown key model, but honestly did not really feel of any much tactile response, but we had not used brown before. Additionally, the keys work very near the top, so if you hesitate, or are a light typist, you will click before you want to. Regardless, since the more expensive Redragon models are said to have less metal and more plastic, we may be getting another one of these instead. There is just something about real metal that cannot be beat. Its usually more sustainable.

I have owned, used, repaired, and maintained a lot of key boards in my life, from the early keyboards of the late 70s and 80s such as the Iconic IBM model M, one of my favorites the Northgate Omnikey Ultra Keyboard. So lets talk about this Redragon K556, I had a small liquid spill and I needed to service it, flush out all of the liquid and clean it up, what I found inside shocked me when it comes to a keyboard of this price range. This keyboard is built like a tank, its base is solid Aluminum with a strong plastic structure for the printed circuit board to mount too, the top of the keyboard again a solid piece of aluminum making for a nice weighty quality strong keyboard so I really wanted to get this keyboard back in service. During the repair of this keyboard I reached out to Redragon to request a schematic so I could service the column of lights that had been knocked from the spill. During my dialog with customer service I was told they were a Redragon authorized distributor and not the manufacturer so they were unable to supply me with a schematic, however they did send me a replacement keyboards and I am more then happy with their customer service. They went above and beyond what was required of them to satisfying their customer so my thanks to the Redragon Customer Service Team. Buy this keyboard with confidence it is solid as a rock inside and out and it has one of the best customer service teams standing behind it.

Grabbed the board (brown key) cause my old one was wearing out. Was using the one that came with my computer. Uncle recommended this and it was on sale. Until today Ive never realized that pc keyboards could feel nice. If youve just been using oem keyboards that come with the pc you bought, you owe it to yourself to try this thing. It feels like trading in a rusty 99 ford focus and and upgrading to a new base model camry. Hopefully that makes sense. Never knew what I was missing out on
