I put this on my 2011 Sony and it’s as fast as a new computer and easy to install.

The drive is perfectly fine, but I worry about the warranty. This drive I received was packaged as a OEM Not for Retail Sale drive. Many OEM products do not receive end-user warranties from the manufacturer. The end-user is expected to go through the computer manufacturer who installed the drive. So if my drive fails, who do I go to on the warranty? Amazon? Performance Tech?

My 2nd Samsung evo in this machine. Went from 250 to 500. One thing that came up in both installs that wasn’t covered in software or units instructions was to get into the bios and change startup drive order. Had to repoint it at the new ssd (with OS cloned to it)as #1 to get it to go with no error. Didn’t matter which sata port or anything else, it’s tied to the specific drive unit. No biggie but you have to know to do it. Took me a bit of screwing around to figure out what the issue was but once it was done, smooth as silk. Stick with the Samsung!

I recently received this product on the mail and immediately noticed something very odd. Unlike the previous one I bought a year ago, this one came packed in a plain white box. It did not come in a fancy branded marketing box, the glossy type with the picture and the description of the product on the outside. So now I am wondering if this Mickey Mouse type of box (plain with a couple of barcodes and a label that reads Mot for Retail Sale) means that this is not the real product but a reap off or if this is really refurbished. Very disappointed and now I am thinking of returning this item and go for another brand.

Samsung is a good brand when it comes to SSDs. My laptop is 5 years old with a 5400rpm HDD. Successfully cloned with everything and what a difference in run times. If you are planning to clone your old hard drive to a Samsung SSD you will need to buy a SATA transfer cable which isnt expensive. You will also need to use the Samsung Data Migration software to clone the drive. Just do a Google search to find it. Its easy to use and its free to download from Samsung. Theres also a user guide for the software on the same webpage.

When it comes to computer mods, Im a Samsung brand whore. All of my computers the past 3 years have been upgraded to Samsung SSDs. I used a Evo 860 500gb slave in an older laptop with an mSATA Evo 850 as the primary boot drive along with 16GB memory. I also had an Evo 860 250GB as a boot drive in an older Dell tower with a 2TB HGST drive as a slave and 32GB memory. And yet another Dell with an Evo 860 250 with 8GB memory. No failures. No issues. Great speed and performance. Im now building a new tower and will be using either one of my old EVO 860s or a newer 960 M.2 drive. Samsung is all I will ever use when it comes to boot drives, plain and simple.
