This is my second purchase of this product. Good size storage at a good cost. the drive does get a little hot though, but has lasted for 5 years daily use.

When this drive is seeking it is really Loud (teeth chattering type sound loud). I wouldnt use it in the same room as one in which youre doing audio recording in. Otherwise, it seems to work well, looks good, etc. Basically loses one star because of the loudness.

My purchase was for the G-Drive PRO, which is a mechanical hard drive, not an SSD. There are some reviews for this drive on Amazon that say the speeds are terrible. Do not listen to them. They do not understand that this is NOT an SSD, it is an enterprise class SATA mechanical hard drive in a TB3 case. The bottleneck here is the mechanical hard drive. There are people complaining that this is not a 40gb capable drive. This is laughable pure ignorance of the technology and what they purchased. The mechanical hard drive inside is NOWHERE near capable of 40gb speeds. If you need huge mass storage the G-Drive PRO is an excellent drive. If you need the absolute fastest speeds then you should buy the SSD version. Just do your research to understand the technology you are buying.

I talked to a friend and he mentioned you should be buying a SanDisk and what we found out is G Dr. is a SanDisk. It’s a good drive they work very well they’re quick fast and they just do the job I have a lot of these hard drives from my music workstation and they’re all mostly thunderbolt two interface drives and one of them has a USB but it’s just a good good drive I’m not gonna get anything else because I really like these drives and that’s it!

I own several hard drives including RAID sets. This SanDisk drive has great storage, but it is the loudest and hottest drive I own. The clicking/clacking is intermittent but loud. The drive does not appear to have a fan, and all sides of the metal case get hot. A drive costing over $700 should be of better quality!

The G-DRIVE PRO enterprise-class desktop hard drive is perfect for storage-intensive applications like audio/video editing or digital photography with ultra-fast Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C interfaces in a premium, all-aluminum enclosure. The G-DRIVE PRO desktop hard drive comes with powerful performance up to 200MB/s read and 200MB/s write. With a high-capacity, enterprise-class 7200RPM Ultrastar drive inside, the G-DRIVE PRO device is plug and play on Mac, and easily reformatted for Windows. (1 MB/s = 1 million bytes per second. Based on internal testing; performance may vary depending upon host device, usage conditions, drive capacity, and other factors.)
