I specifically bought this expensive external hard drive to edit videos with my Mac Pro 2019. I am very disappointed with the response of the drive...It takes minutes to read each video and has made my work slow and more difficult. If you need a drive to create high quality content dont waist your money on this. The computer is not the problem, here are my computer specs: 3.5 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon W 48 GB 2666 MHz DDR4 AMD Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB

It arrived on November 16th and I returned it on November 16th. I used the USB connection to interface the drive with my new laptop. Notably, my brand new laptop could not recognize the 12T drive in my laptops device manager. I disconnected and reconnected it multiple times with no success. Called a friend of mine who works in the security division at Microsoft and he suggested that I return it. As such, I did! He has seen this many times with external hard drives. He advised a different device. So it may work for some folks, but not for me! Oh well!

When this drive is seeking it is really Loud (teeth chattering type sound loud). I wouldnt use it in the same room as one in which youre doing audio recording in. Otherwise, it seems to work well, looks good, etc. Basically loses one star because of the loudness.

WARNING!: This drive is not pro. Not in 2020, 2021, or 2022. It is advertised as a Thunderbolt 3 drive. However, it does not meet that standards transfer speed (40Gb/s). Instead, its actually a Thunderbolt 2 drive (20GB/s) transfer with a T3 cable. So half the transfer speed on a 12TB drive. Pro in 2020, 2021, 2022 is 40GB/s. We made the unfortunate discovery on a shoot when it was too late to get any alternates. The transfers were going alarmingly slow, even for HD footage. Upon investigating, the fine print on the box revealed the issue. Ive spoken multiple times with GTech/Western Digital/Sandisk. They claim the drive functions according to their specification. However, it is not what anyone would expect from a drive advertised as Thunderbolt 3. Again, Thunderbolt 3 is 40Gb/s. So is Pro. Furthermore, the drive is having issues. It repeatedly puts itself to sleep though system preferences are set to never do so. Anyone who edits understands how slow and harmful that can be.

I HAVE YELLED SO MUCH AT THIS DRIVE! I edit 4k footage in Premiere. It is converted into Apple Prores LT, not even HQ. I only have 3 lines of video in the timeline and 5 lines of audio. This drive cannot keep up with the editing. EVERY TIME I PUSH PLAY, IT GLITCHES AND FREEZES ON FRAMES AND AUDIO AND CATCHES UP. IT DOES THIS ABOUT EVERY 15 SECONDS BUT ALWAYS WHEN YOU PUSH PLAY IN THE BEGINNING. its so annoying. This drive sucks. I think it might because of this SANDISK model. I have other G drives that do not have SANDISK attached to its name and I have no problems. I hate this drive.

For what i paid I expected better performance. Very slow Time Machine backups for brand new MacBook Pro 16 with USB3 connection.

Im a video producer who generally uses SSDs for active projects and this G-Drive 6 TB Thunderbolt 3 external for saving completed projects and b-roll. This external is great on a Mac M1 because it has a 250 mb/sec transfer rate, which is very close to the SSDs I use. But recently it started going to sleep, and not wanting to wake up. Its at half-capacity by the way, so its not an issue of being overloaded.

New Mac OS really works better with SSD. After zapping PRAM and resetting SMC, my MacBook Pro does mount G-Drive Pro partitions using Thunderbolt. Plenty of storage space for backing up files.

I bought this SanDisk Professional to replace a failing drive. I was able to copy the failing drives data to it and Ive been very pleased with its responsiveness and performance so far. Its quiet and quick, just what I needed for photo and video editing!
