I read a couple conflicting reports on this drive. First, there is a fan and it does come on when it is put under any sort of load. It is quite noticeable, so Im not sure if I will keep it yet or not. Second, it does have a second thunderbolt input and I have attached another flash drive to it without problem. As for speed, I need to work with it a little more to get an idea how fast it is. The drive seems well built.

I bought this SanDisk Professional to replace a failing drive. I was able to copy the failing drives data to it and Ive been very pleased with its responsiveness and performance so far. Its quiet and quick, just what I needed for photo and video editing!

Ive been buying G-technology (now SanDisk Pro) drives for more than a decade. When friends ask about external drives for video playback, photo storage, serious back-up, these are the drives I point them to first. Ive never had one fail (ymmv), all of the drives Ive ever purchased are still in operation by myself or a family member. The only reason I even buy new drives is I keep filling them up. The speed and stability is extremely reliable. Ive never found the drive noise to be a problem, but if you need to do audio recording you will encounter read/write clicks, so placement is important. The only reason I dont give these a higher portability rating is because they are not bus powered (I would not expect them to be). If you do want to move these around our travel with them you will have to deal with the cabling, and if you do need to transport drives lots you should be familiar with proper care to avoid damaging the drive mechanism (these days, Id drop the money on fast SSDs for travel). If you need speed and reliability, these are always a safe bet.

The description states it is configured for Mac OS use, but can easily be reconfigured for PC use. It is not that easy to reconfigure and SanDisk does not provide a detailed procedure. Reconfiguration requires more than a few keystrokes.

I am using this drive with Time Machine on my MacBook Pro and I am very happy with it. Its not super portable but I dont need it to be. Backups are very, very speedy!

Ive had the drive for almost a year and am on my second warranty replacement. The first was because the drive was loud and made noise. On hearing a recording, support agreed to replace it. The second drive was just as loud, but expected, according to support. Now the power plug port is failing. The slightest bump causes the drive to lose power. Im waiting on a replacement. Id avoid this brand of drives, if I were you.

This is a nice drive, but I did have to reformat it -- no big deal. One thing I really appreciated, are the inputs which allow daisy chaining other drives with thunderbolt 3. These drives have gotten so much less expensive than when I bought a 12 T Raid drive. That old one died on me before I could move all my data. Not going to let that happen again.

Defective product. Customer service was horrible. Bought replacement somewhere else.
