I own several hard drives including RAID sets. This SanDisk drive has great storage, but it is the loudest and hottest drive I own. The clicking/clacking is intermittent but loud. The drive does not appear to have a fan, and all sides of the metal case get hot. A drive costing over $700 should be of better quality!

This product once purchased can not be returned or replaced. My new drive crashed and lost all me data. Ive been trying to use a recovery app thats been running for 1 week non stop to recover my data and its only at 40%. Stay away!

I have several variations of this drive. They have all worked flawlessly. All of my other drives have metal feet that let them stack with air circulation. These new ones (since G-Tech was bought out) are the same look but lack the feet and have plastic shells. A 7200 RPM drive puts out a LOT of heat so give them plenty of air circulation. I keep a fan on mine in warm weather.

I have the 12Tb version, works with no issues, not loud at all for a beast this size, I’m just zeroing it right out, it’s taking a bit of time but no issues at all. The guy that gave it a one star review, did you format yours? This are preformated for mac only.

I HAVE YELLED SO MUCH AT THIS DRIVE! I edit 4k footage in Premiere. It is converted into Apple Prores LT, not even HQ. I only have 3 lines of video in the timeline and 5 lines of audio. This drive cannot keep up with the editing. EVERY TIME I PUSH PLAY, IT GLITCHES AND FREEZES ON FRAMES AND AUDIO AND CATCHES UP. IT DOES THIS ABOUT EVERY 15 SECONDS BUT ALWAYS WHEN YOU PUSH PLAY IN THE BEGINNING. its so annoying. This drive sucks. I think it might because of this SANDISK model. I have other G drives that do not have SANDISK attached to its name and I have no problems. I hate this drive.

I read a couple conflicting reports on this drive. First, there is a fan and it does come on when it is put under any sort of load. It is quite noticeable, so Im not sure if I will keep it yet or not. Second, it does have a second thunderbolt input and I have attached another flash drive to it without problem. As for speed, I need to work with it a little more to get an idea how fast it is. The drive seems well built.

The G-DRIVE PRO enterprise-class desktop hard drive is perfect for storage-intensive applications like audio/video editing or digital photography with ultra-fast Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C interfaces in a premium, all-aluminum enclosure. The G-DRIVE PRO desktop hard drive comes with powerful performance up to 200MB/s read and 200MB/s write. With a high-capacity, enterprise-class 7200RPM Ultrastar drive inside, the G-DRIVE PRO device is plug and play on Mac, and easily reformatted for Windows. (1 MB/s = 1 million bytes per second. Based on internal testing; performance may vary depending upon host device, usage conditions, drive capacity, and other factors.)
