When this drive is seeking it is really Loud (teeth chattering type sound loud). I wouldnt use it in the same room as one in which youre doing audio recording in. Otherwise, it seems to work well, looks good, etc. Basically loses one star because of the loudness.

I read a couple conflicting reports on this drive. First, there is a fan and it does come on when it is put under any sort of load. It is quite noticeable, so Im not sure if I will keep it yet or not. Second, it does have a second thunderbolt input and I have attached another flash drive to it without problem. As for speed, I need to work with it a little more to get an idea how fast it is. The drive seems well built.

Very much like the Oyen Novus, its not a friendly pnp device as they state. Its cable dependent, I experienced thermal issues with it and frankly, never did get it to work as stated.

WARNING!: This drive is not pro. Not in 2020, 2021, or 2022. It is advertised as a Thunderbolt 3 drive. However, it does not meet that standards transfer speed (40Gb/s). Instead, its actually a Thunderbolt 2 drive (20GB/s) transfer with a T3 cable. So half the transfer speed on a 12TB drive. Pro in 2020, 2021, 2022 is 40GB/s. We made the unfortunate discovery on a shoot when it was too late to get any alternates. The transfers were going alarmingly slow, even for HD footage. Upon investigating, the fine print on the box revealed the issue. Ive spoken multiple times with GTech/Western Digital/Sandisk. They claim the drive functions according to their specification. However, it is not what anyone would expect from a drive advertised as Thunderbolt 3. Again, Thunderbolt 3 is 40Gb/s. So is Pro. Furthermore, the drive is having issues. It repeatedly puts itself to sleep though system preferences are set to never do so. Anyone who edits understands how slow and harmful that can be.

The G-DRIVE PRO enterprise-class desktop hard drive is perfect for storage-intensive applications like audio/video editing or digital photography with ultra-fast Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C interfaces in a premium, all-aluminum enclosure. The G-DRIVE PRO desktop hard drive comes with powerful performance up to 200MB/s read and 200MB/s write. With a high-capacity, enterprise-class 7200RPM Ultrastar drive inside, the G-DRIVE PRO device is plug and play on Mac, and easily reformatted for Windows. (1 MB/s = 1 million bytes per second. Based on internal testing; performance may vary depending upon host device, usage conditions, drive capacity, and other factors.)
