Truly AMAZING! My tank was cloudy for about two weeks. I was losing my mind with alternate solutions. I was told to try Matrix in my Fluval 306 canister filter. Overnight, my tank was crystal clear. I could not believe my eyes. Thank you Seachem, what an amazing product.

This supposed to be one of the best. Just be careful you dont get a return that was swapped out with fake heavy rocks! As long the rock are porous and light they as good.

Seachem...a trusted brand. After having a outdoor koi pond (with bio filtration) in California for many years, we had to move to indoor tanks in New England. However, I never really put much thought into the filter systems that come with todays starter tanks. After having a tank in my daughters room for years (one in which we periodically monitored water properties) we started to struggle to keep some of the fish alive. I decided to take a closer look at our water chemical levels and found we began to struggle with ammonia and nitrates again. It was then that really decided to shift away from the basic carbon filters that come for our specific filter - in which we always seem to throw away established bio filter. I decided that I would try filter padding with Purigen and Matrix - creating a bio filter that I wouldnt toss away each time I replaced the padding. The matrix stones are pumice based, giving them extreme surface area coverage where the bio filter bacteria can become established. I borrowed one of my wifes old nylons to create a flexible bag of matrix stones that was easy to add to the new filter set-up. My only complaint is the powdered dust that is all over the stones when you first open them. Even after a thorough rinsing, the tank became mildly cloudy when the stones were introduced. Within 12 hours that cloudiness was gone. And since using the Purigen/Matrix combo the two tanks have never been more stable and more clear!

Best filtration media you can use IMO (and the research seems to back this statement up). Particularly if you have a canister filter (because of the anaerobic possibilities), although it works fine with a HOB filter so long as it has space to fit enough of this rather large media.

Matrix is a highly porous media designed to provide exceptionally efficient bio filtration for single site removal of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate from freshwater, marine, and reef aquaria. Each liter of matrix provides over 160,000 cm2 (170 sq. Ft.) of surface, equivalent to over 40 L (10 gallons) of typical plastic ball media! this product is sold by volume. Cited weight is minimal weight. Matrix is a naturally mined, chemically inert material for facilitating the growth of biological filtration in aquarium and pond systems. Due to its organic nature - size, shape, coloration, and density of the matrix material will vary slightly between packages. Any of These variants and small irregularities in sizing are perfectly natural and will not affect the integrity of the product or its ability to maintain water quality. It will also not affect pH in the system.
