Well this applied to me. At first connection it did not work, BUT... open Disk Utility and click on the drive-- go to the erase tab. There is a pull down menu asking what to format it too, mine was ghosted but it did let me pull down to the Mac OS. click on that, hit erase and give it a new name--hopefully you are all set when it finishes.

I have no worries when putting this in my house. I know it can take a beating. Its large capacity and safety shockproof and rugged aesthetics makes me feel i can use this without worry. Of course you should always be care with externals, but using this versus the unprotected ones really puts me at ease. Transfer wise, its not the fastest, but it gets the job done. Its main job is protecting the case which it does quite well.

Ok i know This did not say it was an SSd but in this day and age i was expecting that it would be just a warning to all who read this but i am not knocking stars for that i am knocking a single star just because it uses a Seagate 1TB drive. i have had noting but problems with Seagate drive. Me personally will never use them for system backups as they keep failing on me i recommend using this just to transfer files like a jumbo flash drive or just as a backup that you have 3 other copys of.

This is a fantastic external hard drive. I use this to store my massive collection of movies, shows and my photos/videos. I have had this plugged in for many hours a day every day for months playing videos straight off of it and have had no over heating issues or any other problems. I am quite impressed and surprised at how reliable this hard drive has been. I have dropped it onto my hard wood floors and spilled coffee on it twice and it wasnt even phased. I would definitely recommend buying this to anyone in need of a tough and reliable external hard drive.

I have many of these over years. Its the only one that is easy to use on pc or mac. Ive had seagate hardrives that have failed me with multiple devices and will no loner work so I stick to this brand for now. I like it.

So Far So Good said the man at each floor as he fell from a building :). I do not trust hard drives and especially external hard drives. If they fail and have crucial information you need, they cost a lot of money to get that data if you can at all. With that said, they are a necessity of life. These seem to work very well at this time. They are fast and meet the needs we have at this time. We are using them to back up other external drives and then store them, so I expect little day to day use from them, so they should be okay.

Although I bought the unit 3 years ago, it received very light usage, mostly residing in safety deposit box at the bank. Apple Disc Utility now reports the disc has unrepairable issues. I probably ran a total of ± 6 backups before it went south. Judging by the many positive reviews, there may be quality control issues that make this a luck-of-the-draw purchase. UPDATE 12/6/17: After writing the above review, I realized the drive had a generous 3-year warranty. Silicon Power promptly replaced the unit, and with any luck, the new one should prove durable. Im raising my rating from 1 to 4 stars.

I purchased this drive because I was quickly running out of space on my PS4s internal storage. The drive was easy to set up, and I had no issues transferring my game data. Games actually seem to run faster off the external drive than they do on internal memory. Ive been using it fairly heavily for a week, and it seems very stable and reliable thus far. Will update if any issues arise.

Its no the fastest hard drive, but it cary this thing around with me all the time. I also love how the orange model has rubber feet that can also hold the included cable.
