Its hard to argue against Hynix, unless Samsung is having a crazy sale. Even then, you know enthusiast-grade Hynix products arent junk. But I wasnt expecting this to put my venerable 980 Pro to bed. On a lark, I bought two 2TB drives during Amazons Black Friday sale, and my only regret is not buying three. The read speed is neck and neck with the 980 Pro, but the write speed is nearly 2,000 MB/s faster. Thats jaw-dropping. You can see the results in the attached image. Thats on a secondary drive in an MSI Z690 Pro board with no heatsink at all. Not an enthusiast board. Not active cooling. Not even passive cooling (besides the Hynix sticker). Nothing crazy. And just over 7,100 read / 6,700 write is impressive at an enthusiast-grade price. Even a regular price. But at the bargain basement price these were going for? I almost feel like a thief!

If its only 1.8TB of usable storage, it shouldnt be sold as a 2TB drive. Companies have been doing this for ages, it still is wrong in my opinion. Another frustrating thing about this drive (and several competitors, Sabrent did include it though) is a complete lack of mounting hardware. A tiny screw and a simple motherboard insert would cost them 10 cents to include, if that.. The hole is the same size on almost every motherboard. Ive swapped the insert between ASUS/MSI/EVGA boards without issue. If theyre worried about the size, include a few different sets. Its pretty reasonable to expect some mounting hardware for a product this expensive. Luckily I keep a jar of screws and found a set that fit, something I doubt most people have or do. Another thing is, dont expect anywhere close to 7GB/s in real performance. Moving/writing files from one gen 4 PCI-e nvme to this one, lucky to get around 150MB/s moving smaller files, closer to 250MB/s with large files (in excess of 1GB). & yes thats BYTES and not BITS (1 byte=8 bits, MB=Megabyte and Mb=Megabit) Speed tests are not an accurate representation of real world use drive performance (which is the reason it says Up to 7,000MB/s) Regardless, this is a decent drive and the performance is what Id expect out of a 4th Gen drive. As a network engineer, the advertising is just misleading. When Im working with data center scale environments exceeding the petabyte range, working with NetApp filers weighing 300LB filled with drives, the sales people arent trying to jip you over a few GB. Theyre sold and advertised with the usable storage and speeds....

Id used other SK Hynix drives in the past. With my new system, I needed more storage and wanted a newer generation of drive. When this came up, I snapped it up. Installation, well, its a standard M.2 drive. Its got good speed and pretty good capacity for the price (at time of purchase, prices vary.) Some reviews say this runs a bit hot, and it doesnt come with a heatsink - my mainboard has a cover for (multiple) m.2 drives which doubles as one, so not coming with a heatsink was a plus for me. Given my prior experience with SK Hynix drives, I expect this one to last a good while. Compare current pricing, but all else being equal, Id recommend this drive (or most any of theirs) easily.

I own a 2019 Elitedesk 800 g5 mini. I thought upgrading from a 1TB 980 Samsung Pro NVMe to the new SK Hynix P41 2TB Nvme would be a speed and storage space improvement. Sadly, it was not. You may feel excited owning one of the fastest newest PCIe 4th generation NVMe drives. However, it looks like a lot of motherboards before 2021 do not support this standard yet, so you will be running this 2TB drive on your older motherboards at 3rd generation speeds. Its slower than the 980 pro on my Elitedesk 800 g5. I am disappointed. I wanted 2TB of space, but not at a sacrifice of boot, web surfing and application loading speed. I compared see the hard disk led staying on much longer with my new 2TB drive. Perhaps the other thing you may not realize is that the NVMe drive is in the box between the plastic pieces. Its so light and sealed firmly that you may think you got an empty box. It is in there! Separate the two pieces of plastic protecting it!

I had a Samsung evo pro that lasted 3 hours before it failed, Samsung decided it was user error and refused to honor their warranty so I ended up trying these out. Works great, fantastic read/write speeds at a fair price.

    Greater than one week

I’ve had flawless performance from all of my Sk-Hynix nvme drives. Really can’t praise them enough. They just work and are consistent in speed and performance. Never an error in sight. Only thing I could want now is just larger nvme capacities.

I bought this drive based on a comparison review I read with the big players (ie Samsung, Western Digital et al) where it seemed to outperform in a number of categories related to r/w speeds and overall energy use. I bought it not sure if it would even function in the the Dell laptop I put it in which came with a 250gb drive. The laptop recognized the drive without issue. I also put Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 on it. Flawless install, works perfectly, boots faster and now with 8x the space. Now I wonder if this mobo can accept 32 gb of memory. Hmmmm…

This NVMe changed my life. I found a wife, my dog that ran away came back to me, and I got promoted twice in the same work day! Now Im living the good life, thanks to this NVMe! To be serious for a moment: Speeds run as advertised; no issues or problems. Motherboard recognized it easily (MSI MPG z690) on Win11. Would definitely recommend this, especially if you want a good NVMe, wife, returned dog and work promotions! :D

Does not even need a heatsinks to operate under full load. My Samsung drives have been dying left and right and I no longer trust them. Hynix is now in charge of my data :) I Still love bdie ram though.
