Ive used these for probably 10 years. I absolutely love them. I learned to draw with Staedtler. They blend very well. Theyre very good quality pencils for a very fair price.

i was going to buy a cheaper graphite pencil set. i really didnt have a clue. ive done all of my drawing w #2 writing pencils. a customer who gave an exceptional review, pointed out the shortcomings of the cheaper product. he actually presented a mini-lesson on what the numbers and letters of the pencils meant. what constitutes a good pencil, sharpener, etc. what i, and many other customers appreciated, was that he also gave his suggestions for a good pencil. he recommended staedtler mars lumograph. he was so thorough that i felt comfortable and bought the set. he suggested buying individual pencils, but id have to drive several miles to do that. i paid a few extra dollars to have this basic set delivered to my home. because i have this starter kit, i can, when im at the arts store, pick up a few of, the ones i most use. i feel that ive made a sound purchase w this kit thatll hold me over. theyre professional grade, sharpen easily w/o breaking the lead, with a good metal sharpener. they erase w/o leaving dark impressions. with a good metal sharpener, they have nice points. the lead doesnt break fr a bit of pressure. also, important to we, whore losing high visual definition, is that the pencil grade is in large print, at the top of the pencil, contrasted boldly, white on black. the metal pencil holder means transportability. each pencil sits snuggly in its own well. no hunting for the right pencil, no digging at the bottom of a tote and finding the point broken. if there is an art store near you, you can save by getting them individually. i prefer having them in the metal case. either way this is a good pencil kit.

As an architecture student, I used these pencils previously and was smitten. They offer a large variety of led hardness and work wonders when doing shading, complex line work, or any sort of technical drawings. I repurchased them for my own art solely because I enjoy the feel and quality. Would recommend to any artist or artisan that needs good, sturdy pencils.

If you are sending them as a gift be sure to check on them first. The first case I got did not have 2B (duplicate HB) and the second case I got had a hollow pencil without the center. Two cases with issue in a row indicates terrible quality control! The pencils are very decent quality. Smooth and easy to shade with. You can tell the transition when using the different hardness levels. The lines are consistent. I like the boxes for having fixed grids for each pencil so that they don’t move around much. I feel comfortable having hand sharpened pencils in the box and carry it around.

I could feel a difference from the moment I started sharpening. It was a nice smooth turn to a nice fine tip. The graphite glides across the page without chipping and erases easy. I like the distinct design and overall performance.

These pencils work great. I’m a beginning artist and can tell a huge difference between other pencils I’ve tried. I can get different effects in depending on how you hold the pencil. It hasn’t improved my sketching. If sanyrjing it makes me a crappier sketcher because the amount of detail is so pronounced. I’ve never needed to use an eraser until now fine strokes can all be seen clearly. Great pencils same crappy sketches. These aren’t miracle workers but i think will help me become a better artist in the long run

These pencils allow for heavier application without graphite shine.

I review pencils on YouTube (rixcandoit), and find the Staedtler Lumograph drawing pencils to be at the top in quality and tonal application. In fact, of all the drawing pencil packs (tins) that I have, the Staedtler Lumograph tops them all in the upper soft range (5B and higher). I believe they must add some carbon to the graphite mix for their really soft pencils to make them so dark with less reflective shine that most other pencils sets have at their softest range. Only the General Pencil Co. 9xxb pencil rivals the 9B Lumograph, but the 9xxb is not part of a standard pencil tin kit.

A very useful set of high quality drawing pencils. It covers the range 6B to 4H range required for an online drawing class that I just started. It also has the F hardness thats not always available in pencil sets. Includes a nice sturdy metal storage tin. Recommended!
