> 3 dayOne of my favorite scary movies. Plot does move slow at times but builds to some very nice moments. I did not find the blu ray quality much better than my DVD so dont buy to replace.

> 3 dayI saw the remake of The Haunting and although it did have its moments it can not come close to the terrifying genius of the original movie. The original version preys on the viewers imagination and gives us such a fright without the use of special effects. The genius of the original movie is even though you may have seen it a number of times it still scares the daylights out of you.

Greater than one weekOMG! Based on Shirley Jacksons book, this is one scary movie. I saw it as a child, in the dark, in the night and yes, it scared me greatly. The impact is less today but I still enjoy watching it almost every year (I think.) This is the original NOT THE REMAKE.

> 3 dayAs far as haunted house movies go,this one is the best. It is creepy and very frightening. I first saw this movie when I was 8 and it scared me to death. It has been a favorite of mine since. After seeing that terrible remake last year,I had to go and see this one again. Even after 17 years, this film still gives me heebiejeebies! PLEASE,PLEASE see this one before seeing the 1999 remake,it is by far the more superior of the two.

> 3 dayTremendous film. No blood or gore. If you are looking for that, search elsewhere. Most atmosphere I have ever seen in a sound film. Julie Harris terrific (RIP). A great actress. Camera work super, minimal special effects super. The bulging door scene unforgettable. Id drop a bottle of scotch too. Saw it in Buenos Aires when first released. Have the dvd disc and amazon on-line also. Save your money forget the remake. PU.

> 3 dayThis is one of my all-time favorite horror movies--make that all-time favorite movies. I think if Stephen King had written The Glass Menagerie, it would have turned out something like this. Its so much more effective than the remake (which was very admirably done, for what it is) because we never see the monster behind the door. Its 50 years since I first saw this film, the first of many viewings, and Im still not sure what was really going on. Ghosts? Psychosis? Some of both?

> 3 dayI must say this is probably the best ghost story I have seen on film. The last time I watched it with my wife with the lights off, my hairs stood up! I cannot lay this claim to any other movie. Top notch. The remake is entertaining, but laughable.

> 3 dayUsually before I watch a movie I look at all the bad and good reviews to see what others say. With that in mind I had a low hope for this movie so I rented it 1st and I was really surprised. I wouldnt say its my favorite of all time but I didnt find myself disliking it. I really enjoyed not seeing but hearing everything which is not something you see often throughout a whole movie. The sound of the knocks and beating is somewhat continuous through the whole movie without much variation besides the main character screaming at her reflection and going kind of crazy. Its not really a bad thing but I can see why people wouldnt like the aspect of not ever seeing a monster or whatever. I really enjoyed it considering this kind of film really doesnt exist anymore. The dvd version of the movie had low quality with the picture and the sound. The beatings on the wall along with the pounding and pretty much everything has low quality sound and it just doesnt sound as good as it should. The video quality isnt even as it should be on dvd so with these gripes goes my four stars. Overall still a really good movie.

> 3 dayA horror classic! The acting is great and for an old flim it does very well in its scary scenes. I love it. The new version released in the 90s is horrible in comparison.
