> 24 hourAlways loved this movie too! Elton John has written wonderfully awesome music for this film! About two friends that are cons used to working together for their own gain, but find in the end that they have bigger hearts wanting to help the people of the lost city of El Dorado to stay hidden from the rest of the world and they leave the treasure behind.

> 24 hourThe Road to El Dorado seems to take its framework inspiration from the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby Road to movies where a couple of guys get mixed up with a gal in some escapade in a foreign land. Here its 1519 Spain, small time con artists Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kenneth Branaugh) win a map that eventually leads them to El Dorado, the legendary city of gold. Posing as gods (shades of Rudyard Kiplings The Man Who Would be King), they meet Chel (Rosie Perez), who both aids in their quest and becomes an obstacle between them as they cross paths with high priest Tzekel Kan (Armand Assante) and conquistador Cortez. Directed by Don Paul from a script by Ted Elliot, this is one heck of an entertaining and funny film. The animation is wonderful, a combo of traditional and CGI, with a rich color palette in terms of locations and characters. The cast is simply outstanding, especially Kline, Branaugh and Perez. There are many points it seems this trio were given the script, and allowed to ad-lib at will, coming up with great gags and one-liners which gives the dialog a very natural non staged feel. The songs were written by Elton John, who also serves as narrator in that he sings most of them, other than the rolicking Its Tough to Be a God, a surreal number where our heroes ponder being a deity while getting drunk on wine. The score by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, the Dark Knight films) is as epic as one might think, especially during a couple of scenes involving our guys escaping Cortez and later putting in motion a plan a to seal him off from El Dorado. Ive seen a few reviews complaining about nudity and sex. We get a very brief bare butt scene as our guys chase after their clothes, and there is a bit of innuendo in terms of dialog, but all very PG. All in all a highly recommended film for any age. Pop some corn, enjoy.

> 24 hourIts been over 10 years since I switched off my cable and stopped buying DVDs. With all the online video services out there its now much more unlikely that you will need to own a video. So the fact that I bought this movie should in its self be an indication of how highly I rate it. Animation is often undervalued as a source of good quality adult entertainment but if you take the time to watch these movies instead of using them as way of keeping your kids occupied youll see that there are plenty of fun bits for us as well as the kids. The Road to El-Dorado has a few well known star names in its list of voice talents and the story is a lot of fun Ive watched this movie dozens of times and never get tired of it, this is rare for me as well, I usually cant stand watching the same movie more than once in a great while.

> 24 hourI love this movie. It has a witty subtext for us adults who enjoy animation, and yet it is still a hokey musical. It cracks me up every time i watch it, usually once a year or so. If you like animated feel good films with singing silly scenes you will probably enjoy this.

> 24 hourI was so glad to find one of our favorite cartoons on DVD, especially since we wore out the video years ago. This is a cute cartoon based on the search for the lost city of gold, but an even better story of the merits of being kind and of friendship. The video was rated PG-13 for brief nudity when the heroes, Tulio and Miguel, chased after monkeys. Some scenes may upset younger children (when the high priest conjures his potion to bring a statue to life). My daughter first saw this when she was 4 and she didnt even remember that scene. The DVD also has nice extras on how the actors worked together when voicing the characters. All in all it is a great DVD to add to your collection.

> 24 hourDo NOT buy the HD version of this movie. Its an amazing Dreamworks film. But the HD version looks like a crappy youtube animation. The original animation quality is much better. The HD version adds some realistic textures to the background, but takes away much of the movement details and just adds gradients to the characters. Very unpleasant look.
