> 24 hourI enjoyed my movie rental & am going to refer it to other adults. I find some parts too sexual to allow underage folks to view such as the scene of kissing. Nice graphics and storyline seemed a bit short, however.

> 24 hourThe Road to El Dorado makes me wonder one thing, the narrator is Elton John. But he does not talk once in the movie, he sings most of the movies songs, the only song not sung by Elton John is Its Tough to Be a God perfomed by Kevin Kline and Kennth Branagh. But warning to parents this movie was rated PG by the MPAA for mild tnematic material and language. As the movie opens, it is Spain in 1519, and two men named Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kennth Branagh) are playing a game with loaded dice, and they win a map to the city of El Dorado. But they are taken prisoners on a ship, they make a plan to escape and go back to Spain, but instead problems happen when a horse wants his apple and they end up on a beach without food, but Migel has manged (some how) to get the map to El Dorado and they decide to make the journey to Spain, take the gold and go back to Spain. They find the city of El Dorado. And they are mistaken for gods, and now they have to pretend to be gods even though they are mortals and without the city of El Dorado learning they are not gods.

> 24 hourLets start with the good things about this animated feature. The voice casting is inspired, and the repartee between Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh in particular is delightful. I dont know if there was improvisation, but the dialogue reminds me of the bromantic exchanges in Judd Apatow movies-- albeit delivered faster and much more child friendly. The animation is reminiscent of Prince of Egypt and beautiful, for the most part. The mediocre things. The female character does not resemble any others from features for children. She is interesting, but extremely, almost discomfitingly sexual in her methods of getting what she wants (heed the rating, parents). The explicitness of her character is especially dissonant considering al the other elements (sidekick animals, The music by Elton John is pleasant enough but ultimately forgettable, and nearly all the montages the songs serve as background for are not funny or clever enough to hold up against the parts of the movie with dialogue (a far cry from majestic set pieces from Prince of Egypt or Katzenbergs 1989-1994 Disney features) The plot, overall, is not very memorable despite a villain who is entertaining and menacing, and I found the climax strangeky tedious. Watch it if you like animation and talky bromances, have children who are too young to notice sexual innuendo, or old enough that they will find it entertaining. Its a strange target audience, yes.

> 24 hourThe Road to El Dorado seems to take its framework inspiration from the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby Road to movies where a couple of guys get mixed up with a gal in some escapade in a foreign land. Here its 1519 Spain, small time con artists Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kenneth Branaugh) win a map that eventually leads them to El Dorado, the legendary city of gold. Posing as gods (shades of Rudyard Kiplings The Man Who Would be King), they meet Chel (Rosie Perez), who both aids in their quest and becomes an obstacle between them as they cross paths with high priest Tzekel Kan (Armand Assante) and conquistador Cortez. Directed by Don Paul from a script by Ted Elliot, this is one heck of an entertaining and funny film. The animation is wonderful, a combo of traditional and CGI, with a rich color palette in terms of locations and characters. The cast is simply outstanding, especially Kline, Branaugh and Perez. There are many points it seems this trio were given the script, and allowed to ad-lib at will, coming up with great gags and one-liners which gives the dialog a very natural non staged feel. The songs were written by Elton John, who also serves as narrator in that he sings most of them, other than the rolicking Its Tough to Be a God, a surreal number where our heroes ponder being a deity while getting drunk on wine. The score by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, the Dark Knight films) is as epic as one might think, especially during a couple of scenes involving our guys escaping Cortez and later putting in motion a plan a to seal him off from El Dorado. Ive seen a few reviews complaining about nudity and sex. We get a very brief bare butt scene as our guys chase after their clothes, and there is a bit of innuendo in terms of dialog, but all very PG. All in all a highly recommended film for any age. Pop some corn, enjoy.

> 24 hourI was so glad to find one of our favorite cartoons on DVD, especially since we wore out the video years ago. This is a cute cartoon based on the search for the lost city of gold, but an even better story of the merits of being kind and of friendship. The video was rated PG-13 for brief nudity when the heroes, Tulio and Miguel, chased after monkeys. Some scenes may upset younger children (when the high priest conjures his potion to bring a statue to life). My daughter first saw this when she was 4 and she didnt even remember that scene. The DVD also has nice extras on how the actors worked together when voicing the characters. All in all it is a great DVD to add to your collection.
