10-06-2025Just like Gone with the Wind, this is HOLLYWOOD HISTORY that is completely devoid of historical truth. The arrogance of Manifest Destiny is given a GLORIOUS spin...Sure, you can talk about the attributes of cinematography and musical scores. But the portrayal of American Indians and African Americans (Gone with the Wind) is early 20th Century Hollywood hogwash.

> 3 dayAs noted elsewhere, this film is highly fictionalized history, and accurately portrays 1942-era white american racist attitudes towards Native Americans and blacks (in other words, its not 21st century politically correct enough!). Those things aside, however, it does illustrate human VALUES that anyone of any race in any time period should strive to emulate. Duty, honor, country, sacrifice, and that glory is fleeting (today wed call it 15 minutes of fame).

> 3 dayI am 74 years old, and I just watched this 73-year-old film for the first time. It is far, far better than I expected. It gets criticized for historical inaccuracies, but I was impressed that it depicted some characters and situations as accurately as it did. Especially, I think that the writers and main actor depicted the kind of man Custer was exceedingly well. I enjoyed it and am pleased to add a 5-star rating.
