My niece and her mom had a great mommy/daughter craft day for beginners making their own tie die shirts for vacation. The final look was great.

We did everything that was suggested, we pre-washed and dried our shirts, we used 100% cotton. We did a vinegar water soak and wrung the shirts out thoroughly, we then tied and dyed our shirts which was great. We let them sit for 24 hours wrapped in plastic to keep them moist, then did the initial rinse.... Shirts all look wonderful, very vibrant, we are very happy! Then we washed as instructed, cold water, gentle cycle, a couple tablespoons of woolite gentle detergent. All of the shirts faded horribly and are now pastel colored and my son wont wear them. It seems like most of the pigment of the warmer colors washed out, as did most of the blue tones from the things like purple and black. We were left with a lot of Pinks and grays at the end where originally dark blues, purples, pinks, orange, and red had been. I dont know what else we could have done differently. It was such a disappointment between the rents and the wash at the result of the shirts. And its not like we can re-dive them or anything at this point so were out of the cost of the kit and the cost of all the shirts. Oh well, at least the process was fun.

I needed to tie dye 100 t-shirts and using the Tulip dye was actually fun. I was a beginner and It was easy to use. The colors were bright and so far, after a couple of washings, my own shirt still looks great. I would highly recommend these kits. There are multiple bottles of each color, and the dye will last a long time if it isnt diluted. Once its diluted, it has to be used within a couple of days.

I really wanted to love this set. And to be clear, my 9 year old daughter DID love it. My main complaint is that the dye bottles leak. They leak at the screw topped closure for the bottle and 3 were actually cracked at the neck and as such, leaked even more than the others. Because they were leaking, we tried not to shake them too much when mixing the dye powder and water because it was making a huge mess. I think there were large chunks of unmixed dye in some of the colors and you can see that in the end result. However. My kid had a blast and it doesnt notice at all. So still a win

Worked well for what it is, lots of color options. Only thing is we were barely able to do 14 pieces with it, so the amount of pieces it says you can do it way off ... Unless all youre doing is bandanas. Overall on prime promo the price was good.

Why my first comment was flagged is beyond me Amazon is probably the worst distributor tulip does not need them? Their products are amazing.

From the pictures that other people posted, these tulip dyes looked weak and diluted so I my expectations were very low. But after seeing the results of this crumpled mandala tank I made for my bf, I am a firm believer that you don’t need expensive Porcion dyes to make a super sick intricate tie dye (though I will be investing in them at some point) especially if you’re a beginner, like me, looking to tie dye for the first time. What worked best for me was getting needle tip bottles and concentrating the dye, so I put half the amount of the powder from the Tulip bottles in my tiny bottles then filled those up with water. These bottles are about half the size of the Tulip bottles and really help you control the amount of dye you’re using. As for the background, I used the Tulip bottles to really get better spread with the Blue and Black from the pack. 24 hours later, I rinsed with ICE COLD water then did another ice cold wash in the sink with diluted dawn dish soap. The shirt I used was 95% Bamboo Rayon and 5% Spandex. I was concerned that those materials wouldn’t hold on to this dye well, but I was wrong. I couldn’t have asked for a better result. Just make sure that if you want your tie dye to last that you’re washing super cold and separate from your other laundry then hang drying!
