Can`t figure how to determine the frequencies that I need, so it isn`t useable. Hopefully, I will figure it out!

It is a little difficult to set up and program the frequencies into the PRIVATE channel. It has 100 memories which is great and close call that will automatically receive a frequency that is within a few miles without knowing the frequency. A little difficult not having to punch in a frequency. You have to scan for the frequency you are looking for.

I was initially dissappointed with the reception using the included metal antenna. Connecting an outdoor dualband magmount antenna to my metal roof allowed the radio to receive aircraft as they fly by. The receiver works best with a outdoor antenna.

Definitely need to know about scanners before buying one. The new platforms are not like 20 years ago! Some changes have happened but now makes things more difficult for home listening. With me being in the fire department I enjoy having a at hime scanner and a pager but I wanted a base at home one instead of having my portable sitting and getting knocked over. This will pick some about 4% of my local fire ems police channels. On the police side I can only get 1 and it wont stop with the static!!! I was able to pick up 3 or 4 other fire and ems but like 1 call not every call so that part I dont understand. Come to find out this scanner doesnt pick but BOTH digital and antilog

I needed a couple of these for receiving emergency broadcasts for a local radio station that I engineer for. Im knocking them down to 4-stars only because they arent the most intuitive units to program. Nevertheless, they are both doing their job well and Im very happy with the result. If I could do 4 1/2 stars here thats what theyd get. Whats really nice is that they include a BNC connector for the antenna (great if you need to feed it with an external antenna) and an audio line output connector, which I also needed in order to feed the audio from these into our EAS server. All told I would definitely buy these again if I need more.

Programming can be a bit confusing to figure out at first but once programmed you wont need to do it anymore. A numeric keypad would have made it easier and faster than scrolling to look for the one you want to save. With the speaker being on the bottom of the unit you must use the fold-out stand to avoid the sound from being muffled and doing so makes the telescopic antenna extend at an angle instead of straight up so it takes up more space than its footprint would lead you to believe. But the unit is tiny so this shouldnt be an issue for most though I would assume that reception would be slightly better if the antenna was straight up and down instead of at an angle. Having small feet on all four corners or having the speaker come out of the top of the unit would have been a better idea. You can also use an external speaker to avoid this small issue. I have no idea on its range as I live relatively close to the repeaters in my town but it seems to do pretty well. I can hear car communications just fine too. Having 800MHz capabilities is not useful where I live but most scanners at this price point dont have that frequency range so it might be useful for some. CB is a feature that I will probably never use. I tried it and got nothing. CB is pretty much dead anyway. Overall its a decent scanner and you wont find very many others with all of the features that this one has at this price.

Having worked in the news media for over 30 years I can tell you that Uniden scanners are used in a number of newsrooms. Having said that I can also tell you that if you are into listening to police calls, there might be a problem since a number of police agencies are on different frequencies that some scanners can not pick up. As hard as Ive tried I can not pick up the local police on my scanner because there are no buttons to push to a set frequency. So instead I listen to the fire and EMS calls. Just as interesting as police calls in my opinion.

"The BC355N is an affordable, basic mobile scanner that"s great for home or mobile use, with 300 storable channels, coverage of all the ""action"" bands, convenient features like ""close call"" and program lock, and a wealth of powering options for different applications. Receives conventional channels on the following frequencies: (25-54 MHz) (108-174 MHz) (225-380 MHz) (406-512 MHz) (806-956 MHz) (excluding cellular telephone bands) "
