> 3 daySmall size but still loaded with some great extra features. For anyone just getting into using a regular scanner or a back-up ... this is your winner! Comes with a small antenna but still receives most signals you will want to hear and add an outdoor antenna later. Complete with AC wall power supply and a small user manual. Scanner case is plastic with touch button controls and an orange glow back lighted display which is easy to see in most lighting. Receiver is very good for Hi-band VHF, Weather, Fire, Police and EMS. Lo-band VHF and UHF were good but not the quality of Hi-band VHF. Radio has Alarm Clock and FM radio with a 3-cell AA battery backup for clock. Channels say in memory even with no AC power and do not need battery backup. Scanner is medium level easy to program for a newbie but one must read the user manual first and no computer is needed for use. Using the scanner can be a small learning curve of two to four hours of hands on use. This is one nice scanner to hear the latest whats happening in my local area now. Anyone wanting a good scanner this is the one to buy! I will follow - up post later.

> 3 dayI liked everything about the scanner - like tone ,selectivity ,uniden got all of the things in common in one sector . I think I am a genius ( my girlfriend thinks i am a genius) , but I still havent learned the skills of programming it yet . Ive watched videos , read the instructions and I feel like I am unlearned and experimented with it -but to no avail .I would recommend this to my friends .

> 3 dayThe scanner is a little hard to program at first, but once you get used to it, it goes well. Great product!

> 3 dayThis was exactly what we wanted. Being a firemans wife, I like to be able to hear the calls he goes on to know hes safe, get an idea of how things are going to plan for things like dinner or other activities in case hes going to be delayed, and its somewhat entertaining to hear some of the crazy stuff you hear with police communications.

> 3 dayMy old handheld SONY scanner bit the dust after decades of great performance. It would pick up all kinds of radio traffic in my area, so I definitely feel I got my moneys worth. This new Bearcat is a disappointment. Perhaps every signal in my neighborhood was weakened or somehow diminished at the same time, but for whatever reason, this scanner doesnt pick up nearly the amount of traffic my previous Sony delivered. Ive positioned the Bearcat in exactly the same multiple locations in and around my home as the Sony, and still very, very limited reception. It pulls in FM and weather okay, so I know the antenna works. But as far as picking up local sheriff and police, this Bearcat leaves a LOT to be desired. I suppose the low low price reflects the low low receptivity.

> 3 dayThis is the kind of gift you get for someone who has everything. Or is bored. Or needs to have something to occupy their time while recovering. Or is part Meerkat (Craig and Shiela!). I would suggest reading the enclosed instructions more than a couple times before attempting to set this up. I would also suggest that you learn to program your local First Responder frequencies into it, or you wont be satisfied with your purchase. Also, use these responsibly. It was because of one of these that the rest of my family even knew of my fathers in-the-middle-of-the-night house fire and we could respond accordingly.
