Greater than one weekThis is probably my sixth scanner, and covers all of the analog and digital channels that I was interested in receiving. After several months of using this scanner, it would still be the first choice for purchase. It receives all of our local un-encrypted police and fire channels. Even though I had experience with older generation Uniden scanners, there are a lot of differences that required some education. By far the best source of information was the many YouTube videos available on programming this scanner. A major improvement with these latter scanners is the inclusion of the complete RadioReference US and Canada database. The database is updated weekly with all of the new information. The Uniden Sentinel software works very well, and the scanner accepts MicroSD cards up to 32GB which can be programmed in the scanner using the included USB cable or by inserting the card into a computer. Very easy to back up the programming information. You can have one or more backup MicroSD cards. This scanner also covers P25 Phase II channels which are being used by many police and fire departments. This scanner is a big improvement from my old BCD996T. Much easier to program once I got through most of the learning curve.

Greater than one weekThe easiest software programming interface and process that I have ever used. Have owned several Uniden/Bearcat scanners since the 90s and still have a BCD992 and BCD396XT. I would have preferred more display colors available- similar to my handheld 396 but the white background is fine. The stock telescoping antenna is functional could use a better dual band behind the set BNC connector unit. Just havent found one yet .

Greater than one weekTyping in your zip code to start scanning is very easy, but this scanner picks up so many transmissions from so far away that it is overwhelming. There is no easy way to bypass the transmissions you dont want or select only the transmissions you do want. The scanner itself is very good, with clear sound and long range using just the included antenna. If you are willing to pay extra the company offers to sell you a new sd card with your choice of county options, but after paying so much for the scanner in the first place it shouldnt cost extra to be able to program the scanner correctly. If you want an easy to program scanner to listen to only the agencies you want to hear, this is NOT it.

> 3 dayThis is the coolest scanner I have ever seen. The negative reviews are definitely about how complicated it is to operate. Well, it is as complicated as you want to make it. I was listening to it within 2 minutes of plugging it in and entering my zip code. Have I done more to it since then? You bet. I added some channels from my local Jail. I made the different departments in my area show up with different colors. I have caught some new frequencies with it also and blocked out some frequencies that I didnt want. IF it is too hard for you to read the manual and learn about the features then you wont get that far. Buy something cheaper and live and let live. This is the coolest scanner I have ever seen. Worth the $ in my opinion.

Greater than one weekI have owned Police Scanners for a long time now, just because I like to know whats going on in my neighborhood. But once we moved to Maui a few years ago, my old scanners couldnt pick up the Maui police that uses the P25 system now. So I bought the: Uniden BCD536HP Digital Phase 2 Base/Mobile Scanner... I LOVE it.. It does everything I want a scanner to do... AND I love they way I can just enter my zip code and thats all. The only thing I would like to see is, I wish the Sentinel software that this scanner uses to update firmware and date could be used on a Mac computer.. I went out and bought a small Windows OS laptop just to use with this scanner...

03-06-2025I have one of these in my patrol car and one in my personal. I paid for the provoice and dmr upgrades and will soon get the NXDN upgrade as all 3 are used in my state. I prefer this size over the new model because the new one takes up twice as much real estate. Both work great and I couldnt be happier.

> 3 dayGreat radio, Ive got another one of these purchase about a year ago and the best of the best, covers everything you need to cover and the ability to program via a zip code is incredible, gone are the days of punching in hundred of freqs manually like in the old days! The only issue? Amazon needs to learn how to ship things!!!! You pay $450 bucks for a radio, and you expect the product box to come INSIDE a box right? Wrong. Amazon ships these in ONLY the the box the scanner comes in and drops it on your doorstep. Luckily I was home when they rang the bell, picked up the box and said WHOA! I called over the driver and showed him an empty box except for the accessories and manual, he called his office, I gave him back the box and I had to reach out for a refund. Sad...

> 3 dayAmazing scanner. The most advanced scanner with the most options I have ever had. Currently I have 5 scanners and 4 of them are Uniden. The most important thing to determine before you buy this scanner is if the police, sheriff and fire departments in your community transmit an encrypted signal. This scanner or any scanner will not work for you if the signal is encrypted. In Georgia, Clayton, Henry, Fayette and Spalding Counties encrypt their signals. I live in Clayton county and the other counties I listed surround me. I am returning it. It is a heart breaker for me and my wife. We have been listening to police scanners for 20 years and now nothing will work. I guess it is more important for the police department, sheriffs department and fire departments to keep everything from the public than it is for the public to know what is happening in their community. This is a sad day for government transparency. I guess the local politicians think it is better if you do not know what is happening in your community.
