> 3 dayHaving been a scanner enthusiast since the 80s and having owned other Unidens as well as Icom and other top flight units, it was nice that upon opening the box it was fairly apparent this was deserving of its stature of being their top of the line. All metal construction with solid feeling buttons and switchgear. Setup was literally no brainer. One simple starts by turning it on, setting the date and time, then entering a zip code. You can easily begin listening to an already present full database of frequencies in any given area around the entire country The good stuff comes when you load the FREE Sentinel software that also come pre loaded on the removable micro SD card. It provides the ability to easily program in Favorites of channels you group to listen to according to taste. I arranged all my Country Police on one, then the Fire on another, then also Business and such. Great instructions on how this is all achieved is easily watchable on Youtube so no worries on getting familiar with this unit. The sound is good, but a but on the muffled side as the speaker is on the bottom. I happen to have a great external communications speaker from years ago that I use on this and its audio is flat out superb. There is plenty of power (5 watts) off this unit so if youre serious about the sound quality it will easily drive any speaker well. Love the large rich contrast display that shows tons of info on what youre hearing. It is actually VERY intuitive to use if you have any experience using scanners. Otherwise if you dont its still easy to just use the full database and all you need to do is choose the Service or type of thing you want to listen to, such as the various headings for Police, or Utilities or City stuff. It is indeed easy regardless. The quality is most certainly there. Much better than TV to listen for hours.

> 3 dayI can only say, if you want a quality scanner IE Police, fire, air, etc. Look no further than this! There is a small learning curve but for what all you get and can do it would be silly to think there would not be. However with the easy zip code option, you can turn it on enter zip code and do nothing else and you are up and running. The sound is great and clear too! The only con (and not a big con) is I wish for the price they would send a quality antenna with it. Dont get me wrong, the antenna that comes with it is fine but there are better antennas that will give you much better range. On the fence? Dont be.. Do it! Do it now! You know you want it.. Why wait lol. All kidding aside, I would buy again. Its a great scanner!!!

16-11-2024I started off with Crystal scanners. I left off years ago at triple trunking. This scanner is awesome. Yes there is some learning curves, however Im up and running and less than one minute. Im able to get my surrounding channels I need. Set the range turn up the squelch, Im good. I will continue to update as I go along, but so far all good. Well not the fact that I got to upgrade and pay for it.,,,DMR, not that important to me. However, to others it is a big deal. The fact that it is Wi-Fi and there is an app that does work is awesome. It works. I love it. I still got to figure out how to get connection from the outside. I was going to forward the ports, but could not type in the colon at the beginning of the app you know, the IP address colon the number Port you assigned it to. Ill figure it out. Dont want to stick it out there in a DMZ.

> 3 dayI have been a scanning hobbyist for 35 years, almost all with Uniden scanners and I have never encountered anything that has claimed more and delivered less. Heres what Amazons site says: The BCD536HP continues Unidens tradition of leading innovation. HomePatrol Programming makes it the easiest-to-program mobile professional scanner weve ever made. Plus, the Wi-Fi feature lets you use the exclusive Uniden Siren App on your smartphone or tablet to access your scanner from anywhere in your home or vehicle. Easy to program?? No way! I agree, the HomePatrol feature makes it super easy to scan right out of the box. The problem is that you get a generic scan that floods you with transmissions you dont want. Do you really want to listen to Public Services in another suburb discuss filling potholes? Programming the unit to your specific needs is NOT EASY. The commands are complex and sensitive to the slightest error. Worse, Uniden provides no help. The manual is useless. If you search on-line long enough you can find a 3rd party manual that is better but still difficult and it costs $35. There are also several YouTube videos that help a lot but still be prepared for a long and difficult learning curve. WiFi - forget it. Does not work at all - absolutely no function. The advertised Uniden Siren App does not exist. It has never been delivered and all that Uniden will say about it is App release coming! How can you advertise and sell a product when its most highly touted feature doesnt even exist? Arent there Consumer Protection laws against this?? In fairness, a couple of good things to say about the unit. It has the best reception of any unit I have worked with and it has almost completely solved the vexing problem of P25 Simulcast interference. These are important features not to be overlooked. IMHO - Uniden bit off more than they could chew with this unit. Unless you enjoy living on the bleeding edge of development, hold off buying a new Uniden until they release the next generation scanner that can actually deliver what it claims!

> 3 dayI have had this scanner a couple weeks and it has worked flawlessly. The Sentinel software is great, and very user friendly. I chose to select from the database to program the local frequencies I needed. It was also very easy to utilize the software to program auto racing frequencies that were not in the database. I am an Amateur radio operator and also programmed in numerous repeater and Skywarn frequencies. I recommend using the Uniden videos available in YouTube that show how to easily program this scanner for a frustration free programming experience. Excellent Scanner, packed with features and worth the money! You will not be disappointed with this scanner.

> 3 dayAnother great product from Uniden. App does work but Im guessing its been abandoned by Uniden. Shame, as it would have been great for updates and more stability.

> 3 dayIve bought just about every new scanner thats been available over the last few years and this is a go-to unit. If you know your way around the software/programming and new digital technology these days youll probably love this thing. It can also be fairly easy to use as a beginner or someone who doesnt care to get too involved. Lots of options available to upgrade the firmware as well. It has good audio and decode quality and receives very well. Many useful features and ways to custom program.

> 3 dayThis was supposed to be the greatest ever. Ive had to have two people help me with this. Apparently, all we can do is select my county and I only can get a 30 mile radius reception. It downloads the common frequencies and so far we have not figured out if we can add other ones. It doesnt look like it. I was hoping to have the record function up and working. I first took it to a technician, and he got it sort of configured and set it to record. When it was unplugged and brought to my home everything was lost, I had to get someone else come and configure it again. And we didnt get the record feature operational. Im afraid to do anything to it for fear of losing where it is set to listen to the things I can. I should have bought a much less expensive unit that I could program myself.
