Uniden BEARCAT 880 CB Radio with 40 Channels and Large Easy-to-Read 7-Color LCD Display with Backlighting, Backlit Control Knobs/Buttons, NOAA Weather Alert, PA/CB Switch, and Wireless Mic Compatible

I use this radio in a tractor-trailer. Even though the newer truck is quiet for a truck, there is still quite a lot of background noise. If you turn the volume up past a certain point the internal speaker begins to break up, making it difficult to hear clearly. Its tolerable;e with the windows up, but is almost useless with the windows down. Its not enough of a problem that I would return the unit as I rarely use the CB and have it on to hear about road conditions ahead, such as an accident or construction that other truckers would warn about. If you are one of those people who use their CBs a lot, you may want to consider another radio or installing an external speaker.

Great radio for vehicles that have limited areas to mount, I installed mine in a 2001 Cherokee. These are small in size in comparison to others but have many of the features I was looking for in a CB. The lighting is bright and the letters are large and with a 102 whip antenna this thing reaches out. The vendor was fast shipping and arrived very well packaged. The only reason for a 4 star is no radio is perfect.

I bought the BearCat 880 for use in my Semi Truck for general communication between truckers and other who use citizens band radio. I like the abilties of the unit and believe for the price it is a great CB radio. Setup is very simple and adjusting the settings is also a breeze. Modulation is a little low but that can be fixed with some tweaking. My AUDIO is loud and clear. Reception is excellent. I am using firestik antennas with no amplification for TX/RX at this time. I do plan to change to Wilsons once I get my new truck. I also like the ability to run a 4 wire mic (D104 or etc) via the included jumper vs. wiring a mic to work with the unit. At this time I am running the stock mic but I will probably change that to an Astatic soon. Breaker 19 SludgeHammer southbound on the big 7-9, How bout it North bound? First one I got was DOA. It would light up and appear to function but no sound from it. Even the buttons didnt beep when pressed. The second one functioned as expected SORTA. The output on the receiving end has very low volume. Everyone tells me they have to turn me way up to hear me, which makes everyone else too loud. This wasnt the case with the Uniden 550 this unit replaced. I have the mic gain all the way up but it doesnt seem to help. Rather than return it again, Ill probably just take it to a CB repair place to have it checked. I havent decided yet. Maybe Uniden will see my review and offer some suggestions. EDIT: I decided to return it. I couldnt justify spending additional $$ to get it working right. I bought a different brand.

2 stars I gave this product for the box which also seemed damp. First of all this is for the 880. Not 980 Amazon puts all the reviews together so beware. Confusing to buyer. Product was made in vianetam rather than china where most of them are made almost felt like dummy model the front was a scratched a little but had some wrap on the plate but was missing full wrap as far as shipping as to you tube videos and how there packed I put it write back in the box and bought elsewhere theres a reason amazon is cheaper on products not trustworthy and can send out bad merchandise thats either fake or used new with issues. Quality control stinks packing stinks amazon u will loose money trying to save money it will catch up.

Purchased the bearcat 880 for mainly traveling was happy about the purchase havent played with cb radios in years hooked the unit up to a Wilson 1000 antenna which was purchased new also the bearcat 880 wouldnt calibrate at all to make a long story short bought a cobra 29 pluged it and everything thing worked perfectly

This radio is fantastic* *Ok, it is fantastic for what it is. I upgraded from my old Uniden Bearcat Pro PC68XL which was a really great basic radio which followed me from car to car for ten years. The old Uniden still works but I wanted to upgrade to a unit that had weather bands and an on-board SWR meter, both of which work great on the 880. The options on this radio are fantastic (I can choose the color and set contrast and brightness? gasp!) and the black face with a hint of chrome is very classy and understated, unlike the huge chrome CBs that are obviously meant for installation in an 18-wheeler. But, it is definitely not a heavy duty radio. If you are planning on installing this in a work truck, or a commercial vehicle I would look at a more classic CB (Uniden Bearcat Pro, Cobra model 29) on which the switches are stouter and can be operated with gloves on. I havent had any durability issues with this unit, and the build quality is top-notch but the buttons are on the smallish side and I shudder to think of a methed out trucker fiddling with this while piloting 80,000lbs down the highway at 70mph. All of the functions work really well and the adjust-ability is fantastic. The noise cancelling mic works well and the on-board speaker is very clear and loud.

Not a good product

Good looking unit. Built in SWR meter works good and allowed me to adjust SWR without another unit. Love the weather band. Only thing could improve on in design, when taking unit in and out, bracket could be notched to front (there is no notch) so bolts would not have to be removed completely from cb and unit could be slid in without having to align bolts. Would make removal and installation considerably easier once permanently mounted.
