Uniden BEARCAT 880 CB Radio with 40 Channels and Large Easy-to-Read 7-Color LCD Display with Backlighting, Backlit Control Knobs/Buttons, NOAA Weather Alert, PA/CB Switch, and Wireless Mic Compatible

I purchased this unit in February of this year. It is being used as a base unit with a dedicated power supply and proper bus grounding. Initially the reports were low modulation unless I held the mic closer to my mouth. Now, after 5 months I almost have to place the mic in my mouth to get adequate modulation SWR 1.2 to 1, Full mic gain using the controls on the radio and antenna / coax is good using a antenna analyzer....need help. I dont want to send back, otherwise good rig.

This is a really nice looking radio. It looks fantastic. Very slick. Very modern. I bought this radio due to its looks and features, especially for its built in swr meter. Unfortunately, the meter is horrible. It is totally inaccurate. The swr readings from the built in meter were way off compared to several external meters I used. During my antenna tuning, the built in meter was giving me really low safe readings while my external meters were are at 3.0! Also, the screen scratches really easily. Uniden couldnt have used a cheaper quality screen. Dont expect this unit to be rugged.

29 Sept 2020 - Update: CB unit was received by Uniden for repair on 26 Aug 2020. This equates to the CB unit being at Uniden for repair for a longer duration then it was installed in my JEEP. No chance i would ever recommend to anyone that they buy anything from Uniden. Original review: Very disappointed, approximately 2-weeks after installation the screen began to fade. if you note in the pics my JK always has a bikini top on and tube doors, this leads me to believe that there was no direct sunlight and overheating should is not an issue ( I live in Massachusetts not a desert). Although I purchased the CB only a month ago, I am already looking to replace the unit. This is only due to the screen issue, other than that I really like the unit.

Works well and no knobs for people to mess up. I like the channel scan function as I frequently haul to facilities that use certain channels and its easy to forget to change it from one to the next. I still have to change it to talk on the right channel, but I atleast I will hear everyone I need to.

The display is so dim, its not usable, even on the brightest setting. A lot of toaster ovens and similar devices use this same type of display and because of these low quality displays, the product is near useless! The same here. The image shows the unit at full brightness on a slightly overcast day, not full sunlight. In full sunlight, it looks worse. I see some others commented on this issue too. Its too bad, this unit has some good features. But the poor display is a deal breaker. Returning and intend to buy a conventional CB with standard BRIGHT LED display and analogue RF meter. Its old school, but I need something with a display I can read in sunlight.

I am very happy with this CB!!! I paired it with the wireless microphone that bearcat makes... Makes spotting on the trail ultra nice!! Take the CB with you and still have the quality benefits of a base station in your rig!!!

The item is still sitting on the table, l decided to have it indoors , so Im trying to find a antenna for it. Was thinking of getting a base for the fire stick antenna.

Installed in a C6 Corvette and it works like a champ right out of the box. I have not used a lot of features yet, but on a couple of road trips it has been easy to use and works very well. Installed with a custom Firestik antenna and antenna cable assembly tailored to the car, and the SWR readings on a separate meter were great the first time I turned it on.

Fantastic radio! I love the diagnostic feature. For an amateur like me, it already saved me a headache when I failed the antenna test (it wasnt grounded properly) so instead of me backtracking I just went straight to my antenna mount, found the problem and corrected it.

This was purchased to replace a unit that was in poor condition. I really like this unit as it works great,as well as the multicolored display. It is easy to read in day light or night time.The readout is clear and easy to read. It transmits clear and receives strong signals with ease.The weather bands are useful in case of rain or snow and allows time to plan accordingly. Its well worth the money,and I would recommend it to anyone needing a new radio.
