> 3 dayI purchased (2) US Art Supply 5.5 x 8.5 Premium Heavy-weight Sketchpads because it has loads of positive reviews, and Strathmore doesnt offer a top-spiral-bound sketchbook. I have been using them regularly since 06/19/19. POSITIVES: 1) The sketchbook has survived being shoved into my purse every day for almost a month with only minimal wear. Considering the state of my purse, this is impressive. 2) If youre looking for something to practice on while out and about, this is a solid choice. I use it like newsprint: practicing different shading techniques and strokes, and quickly sketching out poses/expressions. 3) Everything but the spiral is biodegradable, and degrades quickly, so no one will ever see your unrefined practice work. NEGATIVES: 1) Instagram artists, beware: Natural White is in fact the most un-photogenic gray Ive ever had the misfortune of drawing on. 2) This is not semi-textured paper made to accept all mixed media. The texture is coarse but wrong for charcoal, and it rejects everything but ballpoint. Graphite transfer is significant: within a day, sketches look blurred and faded. When I tested Sharpies on it, the papers texture dulled the nibs and the colors faded into the un-photogenic gray. 3) This is not the sketchpad for glamorous scenery sketches, nor is it one for preserving your childs artwork.
