im using this for my ps4 cause I had gotten the 500 gb model works like a charm for downloaded games totally worth. I dont know how it fairs for actual storage for computer/ laptop stuff but I think every console gamer PlayStation/Xbox gamer should definitely have this in their inventory XD

This is the second WD 2TB Black My Passport Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBS4B0020BBK-WESN I bought from Amazon. Its slimmer than the first one which I like and its just as good if not better than the first one. The first one has been working hard for over a year now and has never failed me and I dont expect this one would. WD external hard drives are the best out there.

By way of introduction, I am a bit of a data snob. Well, maybe more than a bit. Not only is my data incredibly important to me, so is the overall configuration of my computer systems. I know of more than one person who lost everything, including their on-site backups, to theft or fire. Not to mention the loss of finely tweaked and synergistic software. Loss of equipment is one thing, loss of data and their systems quite another. Since I already sent backups of my data up the internet stream for offsite storage, brilliant me decided that I should do the same for the backup images of my computer systems. Well, that lasted for one month, exactly. By the end of the month I was nail-biting as I watched our data usage soar, which ended up passing our limit by a significant margin (grimace). I of all people should have known better. Indeed, my internet provider actually called me (that was a first), wondering if I wanted a better package for downloading HD movies (grin). I tried to explain what happened, but their tone of voice indicated that they did not believe me, not even a little. At any rate, my original idea was immediately scrapped in favor of a much cheaper solution: physical hard drives. (Yes, I had that thought earlier but wanted to save some $$$….) I picked up two WD 2TB My Passport Portable External Hard Drives (what a mouthful) for my off-site backup solution. Disk image backups are placed on one drive, which is then taken off-site with my name neatly (cough) scribbled on it via a post-it note. The second drive lives on-site, gathering the most recent drive images. At the end of the week these drives are then swapped (at least for now). Presto, off-site backups. Purchasing two of the same drive conveniently allowed me to easily swap them, where the network and backup software sees them as essentially identical. Two distinct colors, black and blue, were chosen to help me, the human, keep them straight. In order to further mitigate my propensity for confusion, I picked up two similarly colored cases (an inexpensive Amazon special). As with all hard drives, time will tell regarding the longevity and durability of these. So far so good, and my data usage is back under control. I bought both drives and their carry-cases fair-and-square, and have not participated in the dubious practice of a paid review.

This is my second My Passport. Its easy, just plug into your computer, and thats it. I have 3 external drives (WD) i from the 90s, 1 from 20006, 1 from Christmas and they all work and have never had any problems. Ive had Maxtor and Seagate drives and had many problems. So I am staying with WD and recommend them to anyone

I tried other makes before being advised by a knowledgeable friend to forget about the others and just get a WD. Lo and behold. I plugged this beautiful baby into my phone which immediately recognized it (unlike the others) and asked if I wanted to configure it. I concurred and ... bingo. No instructions and computer connection needed. My only complaint is that it does not appear to have a safe means of ejecting it after use. I called WD about this and was informed that the discrepancy came about because the unit wasnt really designed for use on anything but a computer and that to safely eject I should shut off the phone before disconnecting. No biggie. Easy peasy. Its been a love affair from the time i plugged it into my SG S8 and saw that it was a match made in heaven. Its even more fun to plug them both into my laptop and start transferring and copying files from one to another. So cool.

Figured it was finally time after around 8 years to replace my aging USB 2.0 external backup HDD from Seagate with its very slow 320gigs, especially now with my data well over hundreds of gigs with all my photo taking. Did my research as I usually do as there a total plethora of small HDDs out there nowadays which is good as consumers love choice and helps drive prices down. I really wanted a simple and integrated backup solution that did incremental backups like my old Seagate did. With Seagate drive still having the continual.... tradition of having failures, I figured it was time to go back to Western Digital for my needs. Pros: 1. Much faster USB 3.0 transfer rate, thank God USB 2.0 slowness days are over with. The drive would peak at around 140Mbytes during my backups vs the paltry 40Mbytes my old Seagate did 2. Basically inaudible but most laptop drives are nowadays unless they are total junk 3. Included software is easy enough to setup and does increment backups which is what I really wanted 4. Lengthy warranty and Western Digital reliability 5. Doesnt get very warm even during heavy usage Cons: 1. Be nice if they included a USB A- to USB C cable or adapter with USB C ports taking over in new cases 2. The glossy part is totally stupid vs older Passport models. It will become a major fingerprint magnet and show scratches very easily if you a frequent user of the drive. Cmon WD..... 3. I really wish the backup software DID NOT compress the data and instead left it in original form to save time having to decompress it when needing to restore files. 4. A built in cable that you cannot lose would be a nice addition

Bought this to use as long term storage for essential files including documents, photos and videos. Decision factors included cost/storage capacity, portability, USB 3.0 compliance, generally good user reviews and manufacturer reputation/track record. Have used an older 1TB My Passport external USB interface drive for about 7 or 8 years with no issues. Am expecting high-level of durability with appropriate handling and care. Of course time will tell. I never use bundled software on hard drives, and so cannot speak to this. On first plug-in this My Passport was immediately recognized on my Linux Mint 18.3 and 19.1 systems, which are primary production systems. It was not recognized immediately on Windows 10. It appeared in the connected hardware icon in the system tray, but not in File Explorer. Using Administrative Tools in Control Panel was able to assign a drive letter. That assignment now persists across reboots and the drive is recognized routinely in W10.

This drive went through a full cycle in the laundry. We let it dry out for 24 hours and tried it out, it is working and transferring data just fine. Excellent drive. We will retire it now just to be safe, but have read other reviews that it will continue to work fine.

I bought a couple of these drives to store and watch home movies on our TV. On some TVs ( and a blu-ray player ), this was plug and play without issues. However, on some televisions the drives did not register. I attributed it to not receiving enough power from the USB on the tv and bought an Anker usb hub with a power input. The extra juice allowed the hard drive to register and play videos on more TVs, but not all that I tested. It works fine on computers without any problems, but If you are considering buying one of these, make sure it works on the device you are buying it for.

This external is okay. It works on my Mac and the PC Ive been assigned at work. And seems to work okay - now. I had a problem with it not booting at home, on my Mac. It frustrated the heck out of me because it worked okay sometimes, but not all the time. I went to the Help site and the Forums - OMG - theres way too much to sort through there. I absolutely hate to go to the full encyclopedia when Ive got a definable problem; its like going to the grocery store for one item and finding 20 varieties or brands of the same thing. Its overwhelming. But I finally figured it out. The problem was that this drive was not plugged into a USB port that had enough power coming through it to run the drive. It simply could not quite boot up. It would boot up at work but I dont use a multi-port USB adapter there; I had a powered 7-port USB adapter at home but it just didnt have enough juice. I got a new, 10-port powered USB adapter and the problem is solved.
