> 3 dayI have not had a problem with this drive yet, but since I only had it for a month its hard to say if it will be a good drive. I expect to get at least 3 years out of it before I replace it. Time will tell. Im using it as a back up along with another WD (two drives) to back up a NAS setup so I always have one drive stored somewhere else and hopefully a good back up in case the NAS goes down for some reason. Cons at the moment: 1) I dont like the case they used with the sharp edges, but because I dont transport this drive very often it wont be a problem for me. 2) Also, Im still have problems registering this drive on WD site. WD will not accept the SN#? I have register HDs with WD for at least 20 years and have never had a drive that was not accepted until this one? I only register another WD just a few months ago, one like this one but mod# WBDY, which I thought this one was going to be the same, didnt catch that fact that the MOD# changed to WDBS, So now I have one that looks like a two 1tb (WBDY) and one that is thinner with a single 2tb (WDBS).

> 3 dayNoBrainer USB3 ext drive for a MacBook Pro. I DO NOT understand some others issues formatting this drive for OS X/macOS. High Sierra, Sierra, El Cap, Yosemite - IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE... Goto Disk Utility/Partition and follow the prompts to format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). By default this will blow out the included useless WD Windows junkware on the drive. I set up 2 logical 1GB partitions, one for Time Machine, the other for Carbon Copy Cloner, both Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Cheese for the mouse, it truly gets no simpler than this...

> 3 dayGreat portable HDD. Im using it as backup to network so it is always attached and cant speak to its portability though it is quite small. After formatting for my particular needs and getting the longer cables for my install location it is working out great. Great to have tons of storage space.

Greater than one weekIt seems to be doing the job, but its hard to tell if its actually backing up my files and where they are stored. I wonder if theres a simpler backup available. Nice size.

> 3 dayFigured it was finally time after around 8 years to replace my aging USB 2.0 external backup HDD from Seagate with its very slow 320gigs, especially now with my data well over hundreds of gigs with all my photo taking. Did my research as I usually do as there a total plethora of small HDDs out there nowadays which is good as consumers love choice and helps drive prices down. I really wanted a simple and integrated backup solution that did incremental backups like my old Seagate did. With Seagate drive still having the continual.... tradition of having failures, I figured it was time to go back to Western Digital for my needs. Pros: 1. Much faster USB 3.0 transfer rate, thank God USB 2.0 slowness days are over with. The drive would peak at around 140Mbytes during my backups vs the paltry 40Mbytes my old Seagate did 2. Basically inaudible but most laptop drives are nowadays unless they are total junk 3. Included software is easy enough to setup and does increment backups which is what I really wanted 4. Lengthy warranty and Western Digital reliability 5. Doesnt get very warm even during heavy usage Cons: 1. Be nice if they included a USB A- to USB C cable or adapter with USB C ports taking over in new cases 2. The glossy part is totally stupid vs older Passport models. It will become a major fingerprint magnet and show scratches very easily if you a frequent user of the drive. Cmon WD..... 3. I really wish the backup software DID NOT compress the data and instead left it in original form to save time having to decompress it when needing to restore files. 4. A built in cable that you cannot lose would be a nice addition

> 3 dayBought this to use as long term storage for essential files including documents, photos and videos. Decision factors included cost/storage capacity, portability, USB 3.0 compliance, generally good user reviews and manufacturer reputation/track record. Have used an older 1TB My Passport external USB interface drive for about 7 or 8 years with no issues. Am expecting high-level of durability with appropriate handling and care. Of course time will tell. I never use bundled software on hard drives, and so cannot speak to this. On first plug-in this My Passport was immediately recognized on my Linux Mint 18.3 and 19.1 systems, which are primary production systems. It was not recognized immediately on Windows 10. It appeared in the connected hardware icon in the system tray, but not in File Explorer. Using Administrative Tools in Control Panel was able to assign a drive letter. That assignment now persists across reboots and the drive is recognized routinely in W10.

> 3 dayNothing special about this drive. It failed after 9 months, so I had to pay $11 for RMA shipping to California. Received a new drive 6 days later, no big deal. I use it for Time Machine, backing up my laptop and an external SSD for photos. I use 2 other old hard drives for backup, and Backblaze for cloud. Its 2019, so Id strongly recommend to: 1) encrypt this drive, and 2) use this in conjunction with SSD storage drives. Or just use it as a tertiary backup, eg. format for Time Machine and forget about it. Backup your backups!

> 3 dayThis is an easy to use hard drive. Simply plug it in and go. I use it as a backup to a backup drive. Daily I back up my data to another Passport hard drive and weekly I back up to this one. Yeah, I know I can use the Cloud, but I dont know who can look at my data on the Cloud. This suits me fine.

> 3 day2 TB is plenty for storing personal documents, media files, and etc. Its a hard drive, not an SSD, so handle it gently. If youre trying to add this as a network drive in Windows 10, you may have to enable SMB 1 in the Windows Features depending on the Windows update version youre on. Write speed was up to 110 MB/s for me over the network when copying large video files that are several gigs big. Note that the write speed does drop when youre copying over a lot of small files.

> 3 dayI presently own and use 7 of these without a single glitch or problem to date. Theyve made me a loyal WD user. Whenever I shop online for an external storage drive, I always just click the refine search to WD branded items. I used to be a loyal iomega user and all of my legacy iomega drives still work perfectly. These are a super replacement with equal quality.
