> 3 dayAlmost a year ago, I built a dedicated desktop computer using an Intel i5 CPU, 32 GB of memory, a NVIDIA graphics card and an upgraded power supply, to use exclusively for my 4 HD WiFi PTZ Surveillance Security Camera system. Its a Windows 11 Pro based computer, running Blue Iris 5 software 24/7. The main Hard Drive is a Western Digital SSD Blue 1 TB, but I was running a competitors hard drive as a secondary drive for storing captured videos and photos from the cameras. Performance was so so. When I went to pull up one of the individual folders for one of the cameras to view photos and or videos, it took a while to load , especially when I wanted to scroll down or up. I could also hear that secondary drive running. It wasnt super loud, but still annoying. I installed the new Western Digital Purple Surveillance Hard Drive, 4 TB, 256 MB cache, and let me tell you, the difference between that hard drive and the one it replaced is like night and day. The WD Purple Hard Drive is FAST and its QUIET. There is no lag time when opening a folder for anyone of the cameras to view photos or videos. Setup was a snap using Windows 11 Disk Management. I already had WDs Dashboard software installed, and it recognized the new hard drive right away. Formatting was quick and easy, and so was creating and naming the new folders that I needed for Blue Iris 5. Make no mistake, the WD Purple Surveillance Drive is a mechanical and NOT an SSD drive, but you would never know it because of how well it performs. According to WD Dashboard, it is NOT running hot. The hard drive is rated to handle up to 64 cameras at one time. Im running high quality Amcrest cameras, and this new WD Purple hard drive was a good match for my system. I would have to say that the WD Purple Surveillance Drive exceeded my expectations. It was money well spent and the price was good too! I highly recommend this Hard Drive for anyone using a computer for their surveillance cameras, or even for using it in a DVR in place of a computer. Thats exactly what it was designed for.

> 3 dayI needed to replace the 2 TB hard drive in my NightOwl 3 MP Surveillance Camera system, because the original hard drive quit recording after three years of service. I was on the fence about whether to invest my money into replacing the failed hard drive with this new Western Digital 4TB Purple hard drive, or spend a little bit more money, and replace the entire system. Since I’m not a Computer Tech by any means, the thought of ignoring the manufacturer’s warning labels against opening up the DVR case, and then then having to poke around with a screw driver, to uninstall the old, to replace with it with this new one made me nervous. I understand hard drives to be fragile, and the thought of handling these hard drives during the swap, was scary to me. I couldn’t afford to mess it up. Much to my surprise, it was an extremely simple task. I did watch a utube video on it beforehand, which did help me. It took more time to unscrew the DVR case, than than it did to swap out the parts. It’s just a matter of unplugging the old one, and plugging in this new one. Close the case back up, power on, and follow the on prompts in the screen. This 4Tb Western Digital Purple hard drive made especially for surveillance applications, installs itself from there. It was quick. It was easy, and it has performed. The best part is that it saved me money from having to purchase a whole new system. I’m very happy with my purchase. I believe it was money “well spent”, and I can highly recommend this Purple hard drive, with confidence. Thank you, Western Digital, for producing a quality product

> 3 dayI needed more storage for my NVR, the manufacturer suggested another brand but had not tested this version. I saw that it was a performer in the testing data and after install I have had zero issues. The NVR interface was able to increase my storage and I am able to record much more.

> 3 day42 days after purchase the drive is failing. It makes a buzzing sound every few minutes. The SMART info says its Normal but the value rates are all in the mid 250s which does indicate theres a problem. It just hasnt failed yet. Im concerned but will let it go until it actually fails.
