06-06-2025I ordered this drive and installed it into my night owl dvr. Within a week it was making a high pitch shrilling noise. I dealt with it until it was driving me insane while working at my desk. Then it started doing it more frequently in the middle of the night waking me up. I RMAed it and was sent another one that was DOA. WD emailed me back, after over a month of back and forth, and has yet another one being sent to me. I am positive I was sold a used drive as it did not come in the factory box when ordering it from Amazon, instead it came in an identical box i was sent my RMA replacement in. This is the second WD drive in less than a year that has failed on me.

08-06-2025The HDD was very easy to install in my reolink NVR. I just removed the old drive and installed the new drive without formatting it. It was plug and play. The old drive lasted for about 4 years. Ill update this review if it fails anytime soon.

> 3 dayBought this to replace a failed drive in a Reolink NVR. The r/w head seek sound is significantly louder than the old drive. The NVR is in my bedroom and constantly recording 4 streams of 4k camera video, so the sound goes on 24/7. You may want to find a quieter drive if you expect to use it in a similar situation and are sensitive to constant drive noise, especially at night when the house is quiet. Other than that quibble, it is doing the job.

> 3 dayActually, used in a NVR to record 4 video streams but the needs are the same as for a security system. NOT made in China so it should last. Never get any HD made there. Any other Asian country but not China. Thailand, Malaysia, Japan (of course), Korea, Singapore, Vietnam but avoid Chinese ones.

08-06-2025I recently purchased a WD Black and it arrived in a thick cardboard box with inner support foam pieces. Works like a charm. The second I laid eyes on this package, I knew it was game over. Like come on, a bubble wrap envelope? GG. Decided to throw it onto a dock and attempt a format. Just hangs and makes the click of death. Buyer beware. Poorly packaged hard drive inevitably breaks during shipping. Such a waste.
