I have an older water filtration system, and have been unable to find genuine replacement filter cartridges. The Whirlpool filter fits fine, but it leaves a bit of an unpleasant taste in the water for several months. This has happened to me twice with these filters so I am pretty sure its not just something gone south in the city water. The unfortunate taste goes away eventually, and then the water is fine again. For those who may wonder such things, I flushed the fresh cartridge out as they instructed before first use. Maybe next time Ill run twice as much water through and see if that makes a difference.

I use these to filter well water. I replace them when they turn reddish from filtering out rust from the well sleeve.

Unfortunately I live in an area that has terrible water. So bad I wont drink it. I wish this filter would get rid of the horrible taste but at least it gets rid of the dirt and some minerals.
