This is a simple tool that does what it is supposed to do, poke holes in drip irrigation supply line (1/2 and 3/4) so that 1/4 arterial line fittings can be easily installed. Nothing fancy, just a robust tool that can be tossed in your kit.

does not work... not sharp enough to make a hole!

Hole punch works ok, at least while new. The insertion side is a clever concept and abysmal execution. It could have been a great tool if designed to hold the fitting upon insertion.

Who knew gardeners had special tools for adding lines to the drip system. This makes it so easy. I am so excited to find this. Just added some new lines and the holes were the right size and it was easy to get the pieces inserted. How cool is this!

As a whole punch, its awesome: sharp point and good size and shape to maintain a grip while pushing the tool into 1/2 inch or larger supply pipe. But its useless for inserting emitters-- you can lay the quarter-inch tubing into the channel but it will just slip down when you try to push an emitter into it. To be fair, I dont see a tool design that would work for this purpose. The only strategy that has worked for me is dipping the end of the tubing into hot water; the emitter slips on effortlessly. I gave it four stars because its a well-made tool at a reasonable price; it fails only at what is likely an impossible task for any tool.

This tool was key to connecting the main line to the offshoots in my new water irrigation system. The pointy end easily poked the holes needed in the thick main line. Once the hole is made, inserting the smaller lines into the holes is really quite difficult so I tried using the opposite end of this tool (watch the videos on the product page to get an idea of what I mean). It’s a bit clumsy at first (as you have to hold it at just the right angle) but I definitely did end up using it for that second step too. Some cheaper tools just poke the hole, but I’m glad I sprung for this one since it helped me with the insertion step as well. Love my irrigation system and glad this is in my toolbox.

This tool makes puncturing the main irrigation tubing easier but I did have a little trouble using it to push the fitting into the tubing.

I wanted to upgrade my sprinklers for my flower bed on my new home. Installing a drip system is not rocket science so I bought this tool to assist in puncturing the hole in the main line. I use tools for a living so I can normally figure out how a tool functions and get it to work. Puncturing the line was not a problem, but when it came time to use the insertion part on the back of the tool the fitting kept slipping out. Maybe I was doing something wrong but after many attempts I just used my hands and force to do the job. There are other tools on the market for a little more money and if I attempt this again I will invest in a tool that is better for getting the fittings connected easier.
