Greater than one weekThis only works for those hard thicker plastic type lines. Dont do what I did and get it thinking you could use it on the kits you see here on Amazon with all the goodies included. I love the kit I got, dont get me wrong, but I didnt realize the main line isnt that hard plastic type. Its a softer one, and you can not get this punch through it. It will stretch and stretch and stretch. Yep, I tried it to that degree. Not a single hole. It didnt hold the 1/4 line like its suppose to, either. So you can install the ends and such? Nope. I might be an idiot though, so .....

> 3 dayI just used this tool for the first time a few minutes ago to make a hole in a main line tube (1/2 Toro Blue Stripe) and insert a small tube with a drip head. 1. The hole puncher worked very well. It so easily punched a hole that I advise to be careful you dont punch out the other side. A few careful back and forth movements with a bit of pressure, and you have your hole. Also, the tip is sharp. Dont poke a hole in your finger and save the protective cap the tool comes with. 2. The other end made it very easy to insert the drip line into the hole. I know some people said they had problems with this, but I just threaded the line in like it showed in the video, put a finger or thumb over the open edge of the channel the line goes in, and inserted the line into the hole at very slightly off 90 degrees with a bit of pressure and a few back and forth movements. The tool seems well made. I highly recommend this product for maintaining your drip system.

> 3 dayThe punch worked perfectly (thus the 3 stars), however the insertion tool did not work at all. When pushing the barb into tubing, the barb tended to slip off the holder as force was applied. I gave up and just used pliers to do the insertion, which was so much easier.

> 3 dayThis tool was key to connecting the main line to the offshoots in my new water irrigation system. The pointy end easily poked the holes needed in the thick main line. Once the hole is made, inserting the smaller lines into the holes is really quite difficult so I tried using the opposite end of this tool (watch the videos on the product page to get an idea of what I mean). It’s a bit clumsy at first (as you have to hold it at just the right angle) but I definitely did end up using it for that second step too. Some cheaper tools just poke the hole, but I’m glad I sprung for this one since it helped me with the insertion step as well. Love my irrigation system and glad this is in my toolbox.
